Australian Test Selection 2016/2017

State Captain
Is Faulkner not fit enough? If the team can be re-jigged a touch I don't thin he'd be a bad fit batting 8 and being 3/4th seamer./

So bad fielding means it won't make a difference to have a rubbish keeper? Yeah nah.
Well you can't defend when you're not scoring runs. Nevill is good at being gritty but with the vaunted Australian batsmen struggling against a bit of seam, swing and spin, they need all the batting they can pack into the side.

And if the dropped catches mean SA score 500 again the scoreboard pressure and fatigue will more than outweigh the extra batting. In any case if the top six actually score we wouldn't need runs from Neville as much.

I havent paid that much attention to Wade's keeping in ages but let's not pretend that Nev has been performing like Bob Taylor of late either

IMO, he's been little better than ok and his keeping alone shouldnt be enough for him to keep the gig

Replacing a good keeper with a bad one and using middling runs as the excuse isn't a good idea. At least talk up Hartley or Whiteman rather than Wade.

Shady Slim

International Coach
look i don't like him but picking wade over the nev would make sense if wade tonned up and nev failed

but look st the shield round where nev scored more than four times what wade did, and it should be a no brainier

I don't mind Wade as a batsman, but FFS has anyone putting his name forward taken a look at his batting lately? cricket.com.au helpfully put his record in his last 10 innings up for all to see. 209 @23.22 is nothing like enough to put Nev's position under threat.

If they go really 'the kids are alright' and give Whiteman a shot I could at least support that as forward looking.

Imo I still think they'll stick with Nev and any other pick that isn't Whiteman will be a dreadful one.

And not because I think he'll be international quality, because I can certainly see Rabada having a field day bouncing him out. But because he's young and could be good, this is the stage Australian cricket has come to.

Not to incite beezlebub's influence on the selectors, but if I come back from work though and see an unlikely scenario where Handscomb or Bancroft has been picked as a keeper I might just die of laughter.

I take it Maddinson's bowling gets him over the line in that case. Because if it is, they have the wrong New South Welshman.

Yeah he says Sayers is in the squad too.

Wouldn't mind that four man pace combo given Lyon's recent body of work.

I'm hearing more & more that Wade is in the Test squad. This is nothing short of a disgrace. Selection based on absolutely nothing. Pathetic

Picking Wade would be a knee-jerk based on the reputation that he can bat, even though as adub pointed out he doesn't exactly have recent form.
