Does seem a bit odd. Maybe WA feel they don't really need to push for an outright win with how far they are ahead on the ladder and would rather give someone like Hardie more time at the crease? Honestly I am not sure
Well they got them 8 down, so probably didn't need to worry too much about the declaration.

Bancroft has been in really impressive form recently. I still don't have that much faith in him as a Test cricketer, but I actually wouldn't mind him getting a second chance. He has struggled against England but his record against South Africa was actually pretty good, so I wonder how he'd go against someone else.

When exactly was this time when Paine was considered the only option? It certainly wasn't when he got picked before the 2017-18 Ashes, that one came so far out of left field that many (myself included) didn't entirely initially believe it when the rumours of that first popped up. Agree completely on Pierson though, he has developed into a quality cricketer.

Pretty much Tim David logic, players seeking opportunities in different and obscure places to grow their game is something I believe cricket will be seeing more and more of

Would rather Johnson didn't go if I'm honest though, would absolutely hate it if he picked up an injury over there
David chose his path some time ago & hasn’t had any interest in red ball for years

I watched him recently and he still has the same faults

Be prepared for Renshaw MK2 if he’s picked for the Ashes

Haha I did love the fact that he could somehow bowl absolute gas off like three paces. Would've been an ATG indoor player.
remember when he randomly got a re-call, I think ahead of that shield final actually, and took a 6fer in a OD game against Tassie

it was a brief and wonderful moment in time when CA allowed one bowler to bowl more than 10 overs in a game. CA then went back to being boring losers with the same lame ass "no bowler can bowl more than 20% of the total amount of overs in the innings" rule that ruins white ball cricket for all of us.

So the bash boost crap was just part and parcel for CA?

That QLD v NSW game wasn't half bad honestly

Clayton batted really well I thought. I know he had a pretty ropey first half of the season but I honestly believe there is some talent there

Although he was a failure in the 2019 Ashes tour, I feel Cameron Bancroft is in better form, physically and mentally, than he was back then.
Bancroft is the leading run-scorer in this season’s Sheffield Shield with 767 runs at 63.91 in eight matches. He’s also the only cricketer that has faced more than 1600 deliveries in the first-class competition this summer, highlighting his longevity at the crease.
He is also a fine fieldsman (took 6 catches in his last Shield game).
His white ball form isn't bad either.
Time for another chance?

I absolutely love seeing a different state being a bit of a joke for once

Seriously though, not sure where NSW go to from here? Just simply haven't made anywhere near enough runs. Nikitaras and Gilkes averaging low 20s for the year, Sangha only marginally better, even more senior players like Hughes and Patterson have only really made Shield runs a couple of times this season with not much in between. That isn't going to win many games of cricket

The bowling has largely decent for the most part, not entirely without fault but far less of an issue than the top and middle order being far too often devoid of runs

one thing we can do is stop letting good talent go to other states and thrive - give them a chance here ffs. Imagine how much better the side would be with Hunt, Ward and Manenti in it?

the irony is that NSW should actually try to recruit players from other states

i mean CA has a long history of trying out stuff in the domestic comps. The free hit started here iirc (english domestic cricket at a similar time brought in the "two runs for a no-ball" rule which I think is still a part of their domestic comps.). Maybe the powerplay too.

The annoying thing about the BBL rules from a few years ago is that better stuff had already been trailed in our comps. The player sub thing sucked eggs but our OD comp in the early 2000s had a designated batter/bowler rule and I think domestic T20 comps, wanting to keep former superstar players in their mid-30s a part of the comp, would probably be wise to bring it back so that a SOK can do his four overs and waddle off the field, same when Ashton Turner's body all but gives up and he can't throw more than 3 meters but can still smack a six. Letting bowlers bowl more than 4 overs is an insane improvement that for some reason cricket just doesn't want to do, but how good it would be if Rashid Khan bowled 6 overs instead of 4 overs. instead we got the x-factor or whatever bullshit

Yeah there's a whole perception of "she'll be right" when it comes to talent coming through. And generally talent isn't too far away. But when you haven't won a game for 12 months and the last genuinely good player to make his debut for NSW was.....Daniel Hughes?, it's a problem.

I don't really agree that our bowling hasn't been an issue either. I mean yeah the batting is more concerning but it hasn't done all that much worse than most other sides bar WA. But everyone else has at least a couple of great strike bowlers - Neser/Sketekee/Bartlett has been doing really well for Queensland, Tassie have gotten a fair bit out of Siddle + Bird, Victoria have had Sutherland, O'Neill and (before getting an international call-up) Murphy kill it, even SA has had a great season from WAgar. Our best bowler this season has been a chucker who was previously a OD specialist, and both Abbott and (especially) Tremain are underperforming. I think that's what made our season so much worse, our batting has been pretty **** for a while, but the bowling has masked it. This time it kind of hasn't, and the whole building has collapsed.
