To think he could have been playing in a first grade T20 at Old Kings today had he stayed in NSW. Certainly wouldn’t have been picked for the Shield side.

Instead he’s duelling with Boland.

Daniel Drew recalled to bat at 3. While I do think he probably suits batting down at 5 or 6 a little more at FC level, I don't hate the move at all. Certainly not like anybody else has really made a watertight case for themselves to come in first drop in this team

Downside to Chandrasinghe's long century is it makes a result very unlikely and the way bonus points work (as many runs you get in the first 100 overs) we didn't really get as many of them as we could have either

Haven't been watching NSW v SA, which has been curtailed for much of today through rain anyway but Sabba at six is quite the promotion in the batting order.

Obviously he's better than all of Sangha, Edwards, Holt and Gilkes, but it's absolutely lolworthy they dropped Gilkes who made 70 and 40 in the last game when they got smashed, but kept Sangha (1 and 2) and Holt (a pair) who are not only foetus spuds, but utterly inept foetus spuds.

Edit: I see Gilkes actually picked up an injury, so you'd hope one of the foetus spuds would have been excluded had he been fit.

The recruitment of kids is aggressive, financial rewards immediate and playing of other sports at any sort of level not particularly easy due to time constraints

One of jr’s mates is a gun Aussie Rules junior

He’s on a retainer from an AFL club, full school scholarship & has just signed a contract @ $500 per game with a local club

That’s worth about $50k per year to him/his family

In return they want loyalty plus regular fitness reports via apps etc

Kid isn’t eligible for the draft until 2024

Promising junior cricketer might get a partial scholarship but no real coin until they get a rookie contract from the state at 19 or so

However, if lucky enough to be picked in an under age squad, they will be dropped unless they attend training in Brisbane on school nights during the winter

No brainer for most kids/families

Situations like the above will potentially reduce the number of fast bowlers being produced here as you need to be an athlete to bowl quick
