Big news in the off-season here is the #Bertmentum has signed a sponsorship deal with GM.

I received an excited call to this effect from Burgeinho last night, who's now looking at snaffling any cast offs from the great man.
heh, most glorious days in club cricket are when the newly sponsored outfits all his mates. Suddenly everyone has a cheatstick.

List of NSW contracts is out and no #Bertmentum is a ****ing disgrace. Only one keeper on the list, SuperNev.

Bertus scores 1,000 plus runs the last two seasons, captains his side to a first grade premiership and averages 53 for the season in Futures League. Still no contract. More of the same for NSW next year. Makes sense, it's been working so well for them.

They haven't even appointed a coach yet. Christ only knows who's had input into these selections. Mad Dog with no contract either. What a fall from grace.

Really disappointing squad. It's a shame the following onlu applied to Mad Dog:

NSW is an ‘up or out’ system and we now need to give new players their opportunity.

Yeah that list definitely looks somewhat light on batting, They are clearly placing a great deal of faith in Sangha and Uppal to kick on bigtime. Fwiw I would have given Bert a contract looking at numbers alone

Who did they pick then? All their other batsmen over the last few years have just seemed ****. I'm talking Gibson, Larkin etc. Hughes has been decent, K-Pat doesn't seem to be going anywhere though.

Why would they go heavy on the batsmen anyway? You shape your squad around your preferred team balance. Which in this case is seven bowlers.

K-Pat doesn't seem to be going anywhere though.
Rather unfortunate. He might have had a case for the test side at some point, especially with the unforeseen events in SA.

I've always kind of rated Larkin, at least in comparison to how everyone else views him, but it's actually completely nuts that he has a contract, especially since they axed Maddinson. I would've thought he'd be gone in favour of a second keeper (unlike Burge I was actually kind of expecting it to be Lenton, but either way).

Larkin is Ireland eligible right? If I was him I would be chomping at the bit to pad my FC stats in Ireland and have a glimmer of hope of playing internationals.

He's either Ireland eligible or was trying to make himself such by playing there, I can't remember which. He has ties but kind of gave up the dream after NSW started picking him. He averages something Bradmanesque in their domestic three-day comp though.

everyone knows I love Somers Somerville, but I don't see a reason to keep a 34yo, 3rd in line spinner. They've done the absolute bare minimum except in one case, and because they had otherwise done nothing, they look like massive hypocrites for making the Mad Dog decision. If they had dumped Larkin, Somerville, Sandhu (it seems like Sandhu told NSW he was leaving as opposed to being told his services weren't required), Conway and more, and then also dumped Mad Dog, fair enough, but they didn't do that. They delisted someone they'd delisted before, had two guys retire, one leave and then made Mad Dog the face of NSW's failures, where in fact this type of decision marking is the face of NSW's failings over the past few years

glimmer of hope? He'd probably walk in and be one of their best players

When your 2 front line spinners are both international prospects and/or violent criminal offenders then it's fair enough to contract a 3rd spinner in that context. Especially since Lyon is basically a certainty to be playing every Test.

The tests this season basically run alongside the BBL doesn't it. Haven't looked at the dates, but Indian tests are usually in January

ah but the sri lankan tests are. by my count, Lyon will be unavailable for NSW in December (1 or 2 shield games) and in late Jan/Feb which will be BBL time. Lyon should play over half the shield season for NSW, unless he makes an unexpected ODI return
