Here's my YP, used 35 ITS on him. 12xbatting, 12xbowling, 5xstamina, 3xfielding, 2xconsistency, 1xconcentration.

Code:
Lennox Rudi (445183)
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, fresh
A defensive player with feeble leadership skills and worthless experience.

Plays For: Asterix XI
Nationality:	West Indies
Age: 17 Years Old
Battrick Rating:	4,993
Wages:	£554 p/w

Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: mediocre Concentration: worthless
Bowling: competent Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: competent
I guess he started with worthless batting and something like woeful bowling. I'd love to keep him and train him but he's not good enough to justify having in the nets ahead of my other players, so I'll just flog him on the transfer market. He's probably quite low in both primaries judging by the wage. If he was respectable/respectable or something I'd probably keep him.

I don't see why people are complaining that the new youth academy costs too much. If you put 12 ITS into batting and bowling it seems that you're guaranteed at least a mediocre/mediocre, which for a 17yo generally gets you 100k minimum on the market, usually a lot more. Given that it only costs 48k to get that many ITS, it's not a bad deal. I think anyone who's stopped putting money into the academy is missing out on easy money.

But since everybody will be getting these type of players every four weeks won't their market value decrease.

Of course, but the point is, it hasn't. I'll keep investing in the academy for as long as I can sell such players for more than I invest; frankly I'd be stupid not to. And there's always the odd chance that I'll get a player worth training as well.

Fielding more so than keeping.
Fielding and keeping both train secondaries at the same rate.

I hope I can get a decent starting pull next week, every one of my 4 pulls so far has had worthless batting & bowling - although they've all been 17yo. I'll be pulling a 20yo next week. Haven't decided in what way to spread the ITS out, although I think I'll just put them in batting, concentration, stamina and fielding and hope to get competent+ attributes instead of something like this:

Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: mediocre

Yeah I think for my next YP I'll save up for a 20 year old so as to minimise the training he needs, due to my lack of net space. Am thinking of 12 for bowling, batting, stamina and the other 14 spread out over secondaries and fielding.

Starting to notice the effects of fielding in some of my players:

Pollock (respectable fielding) - 8 catches from 15 matches; 4 from 5 this season
Malik (respectable fielding) - 6 catches from 16 matches; 3 from 5 this season

compared to:

Gillespie (abysmal fielding) - 6 catches from 39 matches; 0 from 6 this season
Bridge (woeful fielding) - 6 catches from 39 matches; 1 from 6 this season

And I imagine there would be some benefit in terms of saving runs which we can't see. Although I'm not sure if good fielders create additional chances or if they just increase the probability of a chance being taken. I think I'll keep training Malik in fielding all season or until he hits superb (should be popping to proficient any day now...). I was thinking of taking him off his fielding net in week 8 due to the training changes, but it might be worth persisting with it just so I have one very good fieldsman.

4th round cup match in progress at the moment. My opponent has been getting quite decent ratings so it could be tough, but it looks like they rely on their one gun batsmen and one gun bowler.

Anyway we're bowling first on a cracked pitch, Badley just got their superb batsman out for 4. The rest look pretty ordinary, mostly competent, so they shouldn't make too many. I hope they don't anyway, after what happened on Friday.

What I need to know is, is this kid close to competent batting?

I need to improve my NRR though to get automatic promotion. It's currently 5.07 and the last automatic place requires at least 7.27 atm.
Isn't it a bit early to start worrying about that?

At best they're about a third of the way to competent.

Can't tell you anything about the secondaries, the wage is based on batting, bowling and w/keeping

I reckon the base wage for respectable/competent/feeble is 650 + 150 + 0 = 800
Highest wage would be 1100 + 400 + 50 = 1550

So wage range is £800-£1550, £1191 is in the middle of that and with the two of the three skills both contributing a significant chunk of the wage it impossible to tell when w/keeping or batting will pop. They could both be middle of a level, or one could be high and the other low - just no way of telling which until one pops.

Hmm, won my cup match somehow. These were the ratings:

Code:
[B]The Flintstones Asterix XI[/B]
Top Order: strong strong
Middle Order: respectable respectable
Lower Order: abysmal woeful
Seam Bowling: respectable proficient
Spin Bowling: quality proficient
Fielding: mediocre mediocre
I dropped a level in pretty much everything since Friday, not sure why. I guess because of the morale hit, but I didn't think it would be worth that much. Anyway, going on those ratings there's a fair case to be made that he should have won. I think I got the chase pretty much right though, I knew he was going to choose to bat, and I was going to bowl if I won the toss, so I could work out match orders accordingly.

The Flintstones - 241/8 (50 overs)
Malik 3-51, Badley 2-24, Gillespie 2-52, Male 1-44, Pollock 0-44

Asterix XI - 242/2 (46.1 overs)
Hera 83 (119), Malik 81 (115), Cuss 38* (31), Challis 25* (21)

MotM: Hera. Yeah, sorry Vimesh.

I opened with Malik for the first time, just wanted to give him a proper bat for a change. Suffice to say I'm very happy with the results. Won't be able to keep him there on a long-term basis though, he dropped two (visible) fitness levels after the match and might drop further when the training updates happen. Got league bots for the next three weeks though, so he'll have plenty of time to get back up to sublime.

Anyway, here's my opponent for next week's cup match:
Code:
[B]NYC[/B]
Top Order: strong
Middle Order: mediocre
Lower Order: woeful
Seam Bowling: proficient
Spin Bowling: proficient
Fielding: competent
Similar ratings to me, but looking at his squad I'm guessing it's mainly due to fitness and morale. He doesn't have any outstanding players, so I'm confident I can get past them. Another cracked pitch though; haven't played on any for two seasons then all of a sudden two weeks in a row. Looks as though he has a brittle middle order so bowling first again might be an option, hopefully we get some bad weather this time.

My morale changed by 2 levels for each of the last two games, so if it is changing that amount for everyone it's no surprise the ratings dropped so much.

Mine went down one level after Friday and rose one level just now. Meh, should go up again on Friday and hopefully Sunday anyway. I'm not sure if there are 'invisible' levels beyond 'over the moon' and 'sublime'. I hope not, otherwise I'm falling a long way behind in the cup and even further behind in the league. NorCricket have already got ratings that are scary, and that too probably on TIE, so I won't be surprised if they take the cup and the league.

I'm not worrying yet. Just concerned. Hopefully when I GFI against the stronger teams it won't be a problem. Therefore I'm not worried.
