Haha. I bought this guy at the start of the season for 41k, and listed him a while ago for 30k, without any training, and some nutter's just bid 100k after his initial 50k bid got beaten.

Patrick James (937491)
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, feeble batting form, abysmal bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with worthless leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Wages: £885 p/w
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: mediocre

I just hope the powers that be don't think it's too much, though I highly doubt they will.

Just noticed that due to that extra 120k (100 for the guy I just posted, and 19 for my YP), I should break the million-dollar mark for the first time ever this season. Am currently just over 700k, with two home games coming up. Ponies raking it in

Ditto. Currently 800k or so, so a couple of home games will push me over £1M.

Sadly, I don't think that'd be enough to buy a new first XI player

Whereas, in the oHTer game, £1.111111M was enough to get me a Prem standard striker (just!). It's all gone mad!

Hi, I've been thinking about my team, and how I see them developing over the next couple of seasons - What does everyone else's look like? I think you're allowed to employ a certain amount of wishful thinking, but need to stay kind'a within the boundaries of plausibility. The first set of figures are what I hope the players will become in two or so seasons, while the figures in brackets are what they are now.

1. Alton Staveley - 23YO, Prof Stam, Rem Bat, Strong Conc (21YO, Comp Stam, Sup Bat, Resp Conc)
2. Doug Greening - 22YO - Prof Stam, Exc Bat, Resp Conc (20YO, Comp Stam, Qual Bat, Med Conc)
3. Jordan Bennett - 21YO, Strong Stam, Qual Bat, Prof Conc (19YO, Resp Stam, Prof Bat, Med Conc)
4. Trainee 1 - 18YO, Med Stam, Sup Bat, Med Conc
5. Joe Noon (+) - 22 YO, Strong Stam, Sup Bat, Sup Conc, Qual WK, (20YO Resp Stam, Prof Bat, Resp Conc, Resp WK)
6. Neale Patel (*) - 23YO, Prof Stam, Strong Bat, Prof Conc, Sup/Comp Lead, (21YO, Resp Stam, Prof Bat, Resp Conc, Sup/Feeb Lead)
7. Trainee 2 (B5) - 17YO, Comp Stam, Prof Bat, Feeb Conc, Prof RM, Med Cons,
8. Steve Cash (B4) - 32YO, Prof Stam, Resp Bat, Strong Conc, Strong LHS, Resp Cons (30YO, Comp Stam, Resp Bat, Prof Conc, Strong LHS, Comp Cons)
9. Trainee 3 (B2) - 19YO Resp Stam, Comp Bat, Feeb Conc, Qual RF, Prof Cons
10. Gene Bewers (B1) - 22YO, Prof Stam, Feeb Bat, Feeb Conc, Wand LM, Strong Cons, (20YO, Feeb Bat, Feeb Conc, Sup LM, Resp Cons)
11. Shaun Bridges M (B3) - 24YO, Prof Stam, Abs Bat, Feeb Conc, Sup RHS, Qual Cons, (22YO, Comp Stam, Abs Bat, Abs Conc, Sup RHS, Prof Cons)

Not looking too bad I don't think! Obviously there's a world of difference between saying I'd like those trainees, and actually getting them - Especially if I leave Adam and his jinx in charge of YPS, but overall I don't think I've been too greedy in my forecasts. At 32, Cash would be approaching the end of the line, but I may be able to ring another season or two out of a 32YO spinner who only bats at No.8.

What do you think? Later, Trev

Here are some ratings from a match I played some weeks ago:

Code:
              Withington
Top Order: superb 10
Middle Order: respectable 7
Lower Order: abysmal 2
Seam Bowling: superb 10
Spin Bowling: remarkable 12
Fielding: feeble 4
Those of you who play Hattrick will be familar with the HatStats rating, which is used as a measure of how good your team is. It's a simple formula, and certainly not all-powerful, but it does predict matches fairly well - two teams that play similarly and have ratings within 10% of each other are fairly likely to have a close match.

So, how would that translate to Battrick?

A bit of a think suggests this:

Code:
Top x 3
Mid x 4
Low x 1
Seam x no. seamers
Spin x no. spinners
Fld x 1
That's with top order batsmen and the middle order equally important. My rating would then be:

30+28+2+40+12+4=116

However, then I thought that, well, bowlers and batsmen should have equal importance. Rather than add a bowling multiplier (x1.6 for seam and spin), because it's all an inaccurate thing anyway, how about pegging the batsmen back a bit?

Code:
Top x 2.5
Mid x 2.5
Low x 1
Seam x no. seamers
Spin x no. spinners
Fld x 1
25+17.5+2+40+12+4=100.5

Or, using the original scores with bowling factors (1.5 for convenience):

Code:
Top x 3
Mid x 4
Low x 1
Seam x no. seamers x 1.5
Spin x no. spinners x 1.5
Fld x 1
30+28+2+60+18+4=138

Any thoughts?

I would probably have the fielding multiplied by 2, obviously that is just guesswork but it has to be more important than lower batting which makes virtually no difference whatsoever until you get up to decent levels.

It's all just guesswork!

That does make sense...but then we'd have fielding almost as important as the top order!

Okay, how about multiplying by 2 all round (integers only!) and tweaking a bit:

Code:
Top x 6
Mid x 8
Low x 1
Seam x no. seamers x 3
Spin x no. spinners x 3
Fld x 3
That gives equal importance to batting and bowling, which is nice, and overall fielding half as important as your top order batting...potentially as important as a lone spinner.

Has anyone been paying much attention to fielding? I haven't, I must confess.

Maybe we could try this out with the next round of the CW Cup?

Well anyway with that last method I get:

Top x 6 = 60
Mid x 8 = 48
Low x 1 = 3
Seam x no. seamers x 3 = *cough* 96 *cough*
Spin x no. spinners x 3 = 27
Fld x 3 = 15

60 + 48 + 3 + 96 + 27 + 15 = 249

Hopefully I can increase that score over the next few days...

Sad day for Jets as we just lost the services of our former captain and the only man to lead us to a One Day Championship, Tenura Girubaharan. Here his stats:

Tenura Girubaharan (423656)
LH Batsman, LFM Bowler, strong batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with strong leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: Jaffna Jets
Nationality: Sri Lanka
Age: 22 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 7,896
Wages: £549 p/w

Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: feeble
Bowling: feeble Consistency: competent
Fielding: feeble

The funny thing is that he got sold 102k, very happy with that. Thats leaves me with just one player left from orginal side Kavith Priyantha, a competent/competent fast bowler. His also the only player left in my sqaud who is lower then respectable.

I still can't beleive he got sold for 102k, probably wont even get a game either at his new club, like all the players i sell. Anyway to pay tribute to Girubaharan's services to the club we named the Northern End of the ground after him, Tenura Girubaharan End. The Southern End is named after his former opening partner and another former captain Henri Haasim.

Yeah I forgot to say Trev (dunno if you noticed already) I did get your YP this morning, and yes, he was rubbish.

Oh no, I hadn't logged on this morning, so I didn't see him, but up to your usual standard Mr. Colins:-) Listed for £-0 - But I'll haggle!!

Using that formula I come out with 214 - Is that good or not? Trev

Applying it to my most recent full strength team:

Top Order: strong (54)
Middle Order: superb (80)
Lower Order: abysmal (2)
Seam Bowling: strong (81)
Spin Bowling: sensational (90)
Fielding: mediocre (5)

=312, although that's with dodgy morale so meh. My best ever would be this from the last match of last season:

Top Order: exquisite (96)
Middle Order: strong (72)
Lower Order: feeble (4)
Seam Bowling: superb (90)
Spin Bowling: miraculous (108)
Fielding: mediocre (15)

=385

BTW Scaly, think you made a mistake, can't get 106 for seam.

Meh watch me buy someone else and then he'll go for under 5 million...

I'll get someone really good, one of these days.

The content blocking at work is up again (with a new logo), so no more BT access for me :(

So, taking a match from a couple of weeks ago:

Code:
              Withington Wonderers
Top Order: superb 10 x 6 = 60
Middle Order: respectable 7 x 8 = 56
Lower Order: abysmal 2 x 1 = 2
Seam Bowling: superb 10 x 4 x 3 = 120
Spin Bowling: remarkable 12 x 1 x 3 = 36
Fielding: feeble 4 x 3 = 12
                          [B]TOTAL      = 274[/B]
I rate my team a bit below Asterix, which is borne out by the numbers.

So, for each match in the next round of the CW Cup, how about we tot our team totals up, post them alongside the end results, and see how it adds up?

Naturally, this is even less accurate than the match ratings themselves, which don't cope very well with superstars.

Oh cool, got Wheat with was going to be my only bid, twice that's happened now. Not a brilliant buy or anything, just you can't 'make' these players anymore and so they're fairly rare:

Shaun Wheat (317104)
RH Batsman, RF Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with competent leadership skills and feeble experience.

Plays For: Scaly Piscine CC
Nationality: England
Age: 20 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 57,674
Wages: £6,686 p/w

Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: strong Concentration: exquisite
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: superb
Fielding: feeble

They're about 400k more expensive than what I sold Nile for, who was superb-feeble, one level better fielding and stamina and 28yo. They were 2.16m, which is decent when you consider they're really equivalent to like a solid quality-superb bat or something.

Can't go too far wrong with this guy as he's young and I'll be giving him one batting net, not gonna drop in value like my 28yo.
