Got a pretty big match coming up this week against the team coming 3rd, im 2nd. If i will this game i pretty much secured 2nd spot. I'm only a game away from 1st, but with superior NRR, i probably wont be able to catch them even if we beat them this round. But i want to beat the team coming 3rd, just for a morale advantage next season, also the extra money will come in handy.

Here our rating (their in bold):

Sandringham Jaffna Jets
Top Order: competent respectable
Middle Order: mediocre mediorce
Lower Order: abysmal abysmal
Seam Bowling: mediocre mediocre
Spin Bowling: feeble mediocre
Fielding: feeble woeful

With my new signing Sishayi (pro/woe LHS) and the recent pops of Jeithoon (strong/mediorce), im expecting to get a double competent rating for seam and spin. The match is going to be played on a cracked pitch, so i've decided to bowl Baptiste (respectable/feeble - RFM) instead of Obeysekera my comp/fee spin bowling all rounder, he'll play as specialist batsmen at 6.

Im thinking about using the same tactics as i used against Jamee on his cracked pitch when we played a friendly. I going to play my top 4 all on attacking (3 Strongs, 1 Proficient). Their best bowler is proficient/strong seamers, but he bowls at number 5, so i want to attack their two respectables, who open the bowling.

My major concern is what orders to set my bowling at, it looks like they have two strong batsmen, one who opens and one that bats at 4. Because the pitch is cracked i want to play Jeithoon and Dowdall (pro/fee) on attacking. But their both defensive bowlers and have generally bowled their best on normal. My other seamer Baptiste is only cautious so im likely to play him on defensive or v.defensive. He bowls at the depth and currently my worst bowler, so i don't really rely on him him to get wickets, so v.defensives look likely. My two spinners Sishayi and Muralitharan (pro/fee) will play on attacking and normal respectively.

But i still can't decided on Jeithoon and Dowdall, should i go all out and play them on attacking, or should i play them on their preferred normal. Dowdall done ok on attacking, he took 3/38 against Jamee. But everytime i play Jeithoon on attacking he goes for 5 an over and doesn't take many wickets.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

A secondary pop each to my best batsman and what on paper should be my best bowler:

Carl Oleary - 17 yo, BT Rating=4,615
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, woeful batting form, mediocre bowling form, energetic
An attacking player with respectable leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: woeful Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: competent Consistency: competent
Fielding: abysmal

Okay, so I've had this guy over a month now, and he's been getting regular play and of course nets. But his form has just been nailed to what's shown above ever since I got him. No movement, up or down. Is it normal for form to stay completely constant for this long? All my other regulars are either at or near superb form, and even some of the players who've not touched bat or ball since I started have higher ratings. Everyone else's form has moved in some direction. 'S a bit frustrating, really. Am I doing something wrong?

Oh. Arse. And I just spent half a season training the mopey bastard. No wonder he bowls worse than Geoffrey Boycott's gran. Ah well, cheers for the tip-off. Guess I'd better off-load him at the start of next season then, probably not worth hunting down another trainee this late.

Had a few handy pops this week!

Rob Appleyard - 17 yo, BT Rating=6,102
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A steady player with abysmal leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: respectable Concentration: competent
Bowling: woeful Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

Hamid Meyer - 19 yo, BT Rating=14,201
RH Batsman, LFM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: respectable Concentration: feeble
Bowling: proficient Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: mediocre

Also, had my 3rd win of the league season on friday, thus propelling me to 6th, and out of Automatic demtion territory. It was by far the most comprehensive performance from my bowlers for quite a while. Meyer took season best figures of 5/23, to reduce the Home team to 102. After Groves made the early breakthrough, with 2 wickets, Meyer came back and took 5 wickets in a devastating 2nd spell. The target was steadily chased down for the loss of 2 wickets in the 28th over thanks to Appleyard (47*) and Stroud (31).

Ratings again suggested i should've been easily beaten!!!

Nah, it's not that, it's apprently just a display bug.

In any case, I wouldn't offload my best bowler (as you say he is) because of a display bug.

Ugh, Armstrong's concentration popped again - before his batting. Which means he'll be elite + 6 or something if I train him to remarkable batting at this rate, will have to waste a second net on him for a bit I think. Horne got his consistency pop and Pace and Packer got experience pops.

I surprisingly got this guy for 1m last night:

Craig Khuliso - 19 yo, BT Rating=12,342
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, lively
A destructive player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: woeful Concentration: worthless
Bowling: superb Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: worthless

Looks crap but he's high superb (can tell from his BT rating, his BT rating when he was bought and how it's gone up combined with the wage, comparing his BT rating with similar skilled players, his PFL). Not decided what I'm going to do with them yet other than get them up to quality bowling. He'll be better than Cahalane (strong-competent, shortly) if his stamina is trained up a bit. Much easier to build up a nice stash for that gun all-rounder if I have valuable players I can sell without it hurting my team particularly.

You've said it yourself!

I tend to play my def/cautious bowlers v.def/def, and my att/dest guys att/v.att...and it seems to work. If pitch type decrees, I'll go +/-1, but seldom will I stray far from a bowler's preference.

The wickets are still there - I remember my star spinner, John, taking 8 wickets against a decent side on a seamer's pitch (uneven, but I can't remember exactly) played v.def...whereas I've seen him go wicketless when played v.att on a dusty pitch against rubbish opposition.

Also remember that it's only a 50 over game - you don't have to bowl the opposition out. The pitch type helps a bowler's overall performance, not just his wicket-taking ability - I'd back a defensive paceman to bowl pretty meanly on an cracked pitch. If Sandringham bat first, you might end up with a very chaseable total.

If your opponents bat second, and that RRR goes up too high, a collapse might just happen ;)

As far as your batting goes, I'd be sorely tempted to mix it up a bit, with defensive batsmen scattered around in your top six. Especially if it's a bowlers' pitch - you need someone to stick around.

Hope that makes sense.

A couple of pops for my bowlers:

Code:
Vincent Hirst - 21 yo, BT Rating=31,114
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, energetic
A destructive player with superb leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: woeful Concentration: feeble
Bowling: quality Consistency: [B]REMARKABLE[/B]
Fielding: woeful

Shaka Gibb - 19 yo, BT Rating=24,124
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with superb leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: proficient Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: woeful Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: [B]SUPERB[/B] Consistency: strong
Fielding: mediocre
That puts Hirst back into the "second best bowler" slot, ahead of Brooker once more, and comfortably ahead of Gibb in fourth. Pity I'll probably be selling him next season to get a decent batsman in.

Oh, right, so it's just coincidental that he's been a bit rubbish so far? Fair enough, I'll just ignore it then. Where'd you find out about this, btw? I've been going over JFW and the sledging boards without much luck. One of the Q&A's?
