I am not talking about draft picks, but since 1996, Geelong supporters have been told by the club, that they are rebuilding, training the youth and the day of glory will soon be upon you.
Try 2001.

We were paving the way for North Melbourne still topping up on hacks such as Brett Spinks, Jason Mooney, Mitchell White (Excellent player at WCE), Scotty Bamford, Tristan Lynch, Marty McKinnon, Aaron Lord etc. in the mid to late 90's. Ayres destroyed the list with his shambolic drafting/recruiting and then Thompson had to rebuild it. We took a bunch of youngsters in 99, experienced players in 2000 but it wasn't until the 2001 draft where we took 8 players that the youth policy kicked in.

But the hard work has been done, years spent indoctrinating and now what. In the late 90's your side was too old, in the early 00's you were too young, now the age is perfect and there is no excuse.
That part still stands and is why a lot of Geelong supporters, including myself, are mighty ****ed off. 5 years on and we are pretty much back where we started.

We just about always beat Richmond. Gazza senior used to tear them to shreds and it has continued from there. Geelong have won the last 7 between the sides.

They should come out fired up this week but then again I thought the Saints game was a turning point in the season hence the Collingwood bet :@

The teams that have beaten us have moved the ball quickly, if Richmond play the same game they did against Adelaide I think we will win. I only saw the last quarter but when you play like that one or two skill errors will lose you the game and the Tiges, lead by Coughlan, gave away two or three shocking goals to Adelaide but they just couldn't consolidate them. The game plan requires a fair bit of luck *sorry*
1) You make it sound like Richmond are going to try and do this every week.
2) They sort of did it against Geelong in round 22 last year when one side of the ground had a heavy wind, so they denied Geelong possession of the ball whenever they Geelong were going with the wind, and then kicked it long when they had the wind. Richmond ended up losing by a point against a far superior opponent, so they could do it again if they wanted to.

That being said, I don't think they'll do it against Geelong. However if Geelong flood again like they did against Collingwood, they may. But I very much doubt they'd have it pre-planned. Mainly because of all the hysteria surronding it will have Geelong prepared, but also because it works much better against Adelaide then a team like Geelong. With all due respect to Geelong, shutting down a better skilled Adelaide team was vital, whereas Geelong don't have the run from the backline that Adelaide have.

No, this time you have the list but they are not performing. Other than a lack of a quality forward (Ottens just isn't doing it in the forward line, he looks better in the ruck) and maybe a classy midfielder rather than a lot of blue-collar ones, Geelong's list is fine. They're just underperforming.

Chapman, Ablett, Scarlett, Bartel and Harley (when fit) are guns. If Mooney, Kelly, Ottens, King, Steve Johnson and others could either get on the park or perform to their potential, Geelong would be going swell.

Anyways, personally on Geelong, I'd be shattered if Bomber got sacked. It's not as though this is our last year with a decent crack at a premiership - the only guy that's going to retire at the end of the year is Riccardi. The best thing we've done recruitment wise is pick a large percentage of our players from the Geelong Falcons, so they have an emotional tie to the club and town, making it harder for them to leave (see Moloney's reaction to being traded) and helping to ease our salary cap a bit.
