Damnit! I was going to put a bit of money on Richmond today at $5.75 but thought better of it.

Stop playing with my emotions, Richmond :(

Just thought I'd post here 'cause i think it's hilarious. It's about an incident that happened in a victorian league, Diamond Valley, last week. The league is notorious for being 'rough'.

Probe into umpires' fight
Sam Edmund, sports affairs reporter
17may06

TWO umpires exchanged punches in a bizarre ending to a suburban football match.

The men in white had just finished umpiring a Diamond Valley Football League game when they began fighting.
The Herald Sun has learned the pair became involved in a heated argument as they left Epping football ground after the home side beat Heidelberg by 44 points at the weekend.

Tempers boiled over after they entered the umpires' rooms.

"Two senior umpires punched on in the rooms after the game," a source said.

"The umpiring was disgraceful all day and as they were walking off the ground they were having a heated discussion about some of the decisions the other one was paying.

"They just got in the room and started throwing punches.

"Apparently the goal umpire walked in between them to break them up and he copped one in the face as well.

"The Diamond Valley is a joke, let me tell you."

Heidelberg football manager Robin "Polly" Perkins said he was unaware of the incident, but admitted the umpiring was so bad the club was considering sending a letter of complaint.

"We're very disappointed at the standard of umpiring," Mr Perkins said.

"I saw a decision I've never seen before. The umpire paid a 50m penalty against us because one of our supporters, who was well behind the fence, called him a cabbage.

"I've never seen that in my life."

Epping president John Mason said: "I wasn't aware of the fight.

"If I knew it was happening I would have bought tickets.

"I would have had a ball, don't you worry."

DVFL secretary Peter Floyd said the league would investigate the incident.

Heidelberg president Trevor Barrett could not be contacted yesterday.

How funny is the part about the spectator calling the umpire a cabbage?

YES! What a win by the Tigers. I tipped Richmond! Didn't have the guts to put money on Richmond though I usually do when we are such huge underdogs such as against Brisbane this year. I wish I did though.

Terry Wallace you genius. Beating Adelaide at their own game. And Joel Bowden you champion. Just the general from half-back in his 200th. Best on ground in his 200th like Richo was b.o.g for his 200th last year against Port.

Very, very smart football from Richmond, although it wasn't the greatest to watch. All that matters however is that they got the 4 points and have given the side a huge amount of confidence.

That was just from a bitter Essendon supporter.

We play Carlton and Essendon again this year, and we're still yet to play the Hawks. All very possible wins.

What annoys me is that the Cats are suddenly a flooding side, after doing it once in a must win game where Thompson decided to attack St. Kilda's major weakness - their coach. Suddenly everyone's talking about how we'll flood the Pies, when really I think we're the best equipped side to cover their forward line.

Anyways, last week it was St. Kilda who were using the ball slowly - caused by Geelong's flooding (and also their ability to rush the Sainters and not let them bomb from 50 out, an oft overlooked part of flooding). When the Cats had the ball, we actually moved it quickly. Richmond dictated the game with a brand of footy that was like watching the last two minutes of a close game for 120 minutes. In terms of quality of football, it was the worst I've seen.
