Love strikes me as someone who would've gutsed it out at Test cricket though. I know it's physchology bollocks but Khawaja just seems soft.

Khawaja needs to open imo thats his best position. His best 100 was opening in the DN test against SA when the ball was moving around.

I thought of Love as stylish, elegant and correct but not specifically gutsy. Of course making big scores in shield finals creates a more gutsy image but just look at Marcus Harris in finals vs. Test technique.

Im not trying to knock Love, im knocking domestic cricket in general.

Love had his fair share of technical issues that were never tested in shield. Would have had a similar career to Bevan in tests

100 vs Pakistan (also opening) was great too.
That had to be the most out of box innings I've ever seen from him. Almost single-handedly saved a Test in a terrible batting lineup, and showed lots of guts too.

No he doesn't. Khawaja averages low 40s in FC cricket

he's a much better white-ball player though
Ehhh, his non-Test FC average is 44.39. Not as good as Love's but not that far off it and I feel like Shield pitches are trickier to bat on now than what they were in Love's time.

EDIT: I checked their Shield averages. Khawaja's is 49.23, Love's is 46.00. Love did much better in county cricket though - 61.90 v 42.23.

oh well we all know that county cricket is more relevant, especially given the current series is the Ashes in England, so of course that's what I meant

That's what I mean when people say with certainty that shield batsmen from the 90s would've been world beaters today. They just weren't tested at the highest level and may as well have turned out like Khawaja or Bevan

I said in the last match that Archer would run through a team when he pitched it up and got the movement rather than bowling short. I hate being proven right so quickly.

Wasn't Broad's ball to Head an abolsute cracker though? And Marnus' dismissal possibly the funniest lbw I've ever seen.

Its the classic schrodingers cat situation

It's worrying that Wade has done jack **** outside 1 innings too
Eagerly waiting to hear stephen’s views on this.
I know my opinions are widely respected and are deep seated truths that fundamentally tap into the very essence of human nature itself but I don't have too much to add here that hasn't already been said.

Wade was in great domestic form, put up his hand but probably shouldn't have been picked. Made a jammy hundred in the first test but hasn't done anything since. Could be on the chopping block next test with Smith coming back but might be saved if Khawaja is elevated to open and Harris is dropped.

Not much more to be said. I was advocating for Wade to play as keeper in the world cup but Carey made me taste hard there (and I'm glad he did). I'm far more of a Wade fan in the shorter formats.

well that was disappointing at the end but could have been 80 AO so **** it

I hope the conditions remain to be the same today

If England can go and make 300 in similar conditions then all power to them. If it turns out sunny with little movement and they pile on the runs though they can get ****ed
