3rd Test at Headingley, Leeds

Arachnodouche

International Captain
Archer is a scary prospect. Never slipped into top gear and still came away with a bag. I can see countries tailoring pitches to negate him, at least in this part of the world

Nice to see Warner finally pull his thumb out. Lavuschagne is looking like a great young find and surely stays in the side when Smith comes back. Can’t beleive we lost 8 wickets for ****ing 40 runs though, disgusting.

Reckon close is coming. But if drizzle.

Australia will be thrilled if they get to close around 175-6.
Yup, that's when I left the action fully expecting no great change by close of play. A quick look now and they're all out. I was going to ask how on earth that happened but I think I know the answer really.

Broad and Archer were both good all day really. It was just the Woakes and Stokes spell that was really bad. Strange day but probably the end result you would have expected.

Well...it turns out Archer was ok after all. What a scorecard that is to wake up to. I thought Warner and Marnus were settling in when I went to bed last night, but didn't count on nobody else scoring above 10. A bit unfair to not let Warner and Marnus bat 5 times each after we lost Smith I thought. Not really in the spirit of the game.

Went to bed at 2/39
Woke up 179ao
"179 isn't too bad given the challenging conditions"
Look at the scorecard in detail
Warner:50
Labuschagne:50
Everyone else: **** all.

Much more disappointing score than it could have been but at the same time it's enough to work with given England are batting last. All up to the bowlers again I guess.

Good to see Marnus making some runs. I would happily taste it when it comes to him. Never rated him at all but he's put up two important scores.

Interestingly if I were Joe Root I would make Archer bowl first change. Surely Woakes and Broad are better with the new ball. Archer seems to get good around the 20-30 over mark from what we've seen so far.

Yikes. Especially at 2/130-odd. I suppose you can say Warner, Head and Wade got great deliveries or were a tad unlucky looking at the (admittedly flawed analysis) CricInfo commentary, but still....

Though had you said that we'd be 179 at the start of play I wouldn't have been too unhappy. Just a shame England didn't bat in those conditions

Good mate is a former quality fc batsman and has just retired from being an A grade umpire in Queensland

He maintains to this day that Labu is the 5th best batsman in Queensland

Kid is making a lot of people taste it

Anyway, seems like I was right

Should have dumped a batter and played Starc

Yeah, they can't moan about Burns again given the jam Warner had.
Though I will say did Warner actually give up a chance? Went to bed at Tea so can't say for certain. IMO there's a difference between playing and missing heaps and actually being dropped or otherwise out but not given.

EDIT: Plus also Warner looked a lot more fluent once he reached 15. Burns was looking dodgy all innings.

Yeah getting rid of more batsmen will help our run scoring problems

Yeah it's one of those weird days where you see the typical gloom and misery of English weather and are happy to take what you can scrape together, then you're thinking 250 odd is on, then you end up disappointed but by no means out of it.

Matters not. That's about 40 too many for this England line up regardless of the conditions against the attack Australia has in for this test. Finally playing three quicks instead of 2.5.
