    Ball gate scandal

Oh sorry, I didn't watch that series, who was that between? I was too busy watching the Ashes where no Aussie players or staff claimed that a damaged ball can't or shouldn't be changed with one that is similar (but undamaged). Was there was an imaginary Ashes taking place at the same time...

    Was 2-2 a fair result?

If that's how you see it, the Aussies picked a team and strategy for the weather/draw in match 4. Being so negative about it backfired, but without that forecast it's a different kettle of fish. Aus only needed to be inches better in the previous match and it would have been 3-0 at that stage...

Instances of highly rated bowlers having below par series

I well remember Warnie getting out on the no ball (was pretty funny), but couldn't tell you much else, mustn't have found it too memorable. I don't like bat dominated series much. For instance I know there was a NZ series here around '16 (and a return series) but my only recollection was losing...

Eng & Aus Docked Slow Over Rate Points 2023-2025 cycle

Couldn't care less about the WTC.

Instances of highly rated bowlers having below par series

Same series...Bond ave 96 at sr 134. Martin only played one match but still, ave 139 at sr 210. Seems it was partly rain affected 0-0 series, with only one innings batted to completion. No wonder I don't recall it, sounds thrilling.

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

The fast bowling averages tell a story. Woakes 18. Wood 20. Broad 28. Robinson 28. Stokes 30. Anderson 85 (lol). Starc 27. Hazlewood 32. Cummins 38. Green 47. Marsh 56. Boland 115 (again lol). Some of the Aussie figures slightly inflated in that drawn match, but despite the journalistic hype...

Gillespie '05 Ashes series. Three matches, three wickets @ 100 runs apiece.

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

Usman Kreepy Marnus Root Brook Stokes Bairstow Woakes Wood Murphy Broad Wouldn't complain if Carey was in there. But he is somewhat overrated by many Aussies and had an ordinary couple of matches, whereas Bairstow improved markedly at the end and is also far better with the bat. Starc could...

    Ball gate scandal

Nah. Something was amiss, but we should just deal with it and move on. Umpires decision is final anyway so there's no use moaning. Shouldn't let it detract from what was some excellent pom bowling, or the Broad fairytale end to his exceptional career. If you're good enough you'll overcome all...

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

Well then please accept my apologies, I misconstrued your previous post. It happens. :D ps. I agree some of the umpiring was ordinary.

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

It doesn't work like that. It's one of the most basic rules in cricket, that it's not a catch if you drop the ball. That's black and white, none of the rest matters and you should lose a review. Stokes obviously knew he shelled it, but instead of accepting the umpires call chose to review it...

    "Retaining the Trophy"

I tend to agree. I couldn't care less about it, it's like a consolation prize. There are winners...and then there is everyone else.

Is England the Most Hated Team in the World Right Now?

    My work is done.

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

Yeah, I think some very good bowling was what did for the Aussies in the end. There's no shame in getting beaten that way. They fought for longer and got closer than I was expecting.

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

I was talking about the pom team/brainwashing cult and the obliging media. The moral victory ethos is strong (were the better team and all that). You in particular, or your particular pov, is something I haven't really given any consideration.

*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

Agree. Winning a series in India would also be good. It's sure been a while. Also get joy from the mental hold we have on a smaller country across the Tasman. To the extent that we could probably roll out second eleven club team and still beat them somehow. Never gets old that, you'd think they...

Is England the Most Hated Team in the World Right Now?

England aren't relevant enough for fans to hate. Laugh at? Pity perhaps? Surely the Aussies still take the cake? The ability to incite hatred in opposition fans has long been amongst the most pleasing and redeeming of qualities that this team possesses. Have shown great consistency. Would be...
