What is the spirit of cricket?

At the moment it involves having a massive sook over a correct umpiring decision and revelling in abuse of players, not acknowledging them as the better team when they win, second guessing their actions to claim a fake moral high ground and showing lack of respect for opposition by carrying on...

What is the spirit of cricket?

I think it exists. I remember a while back when Smith was being booed and heckled by Indian fans, where Kohli motioned to them to stop it as he thought it was poor form. That's a very kind and spirited sporting gesture from someone who otherwise would (quite rightly) never give any Aussie...

*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

Yes, this formed the basis of the CA claim that he knew of a "potential" plan by his players to ball tamper. Which is just a weaselly way of saying that as far as they could find, he had no direct knowledge of it at all. Though in reality I think most players and coaching staff were aware. This...

So that's a no then. You have no evidence that Smith has ever cheated (there's certainly nothing to indicate such in the load of bollocks above). Got to wonder why you proclaim it so confidently? I'm not in denial. The Aussies were caught ball tampering once, in a tit for tat with the Saffers...

*Official* Third Test (Headingley, Leeds) 6–10 July

The pitches so far (for the most part) haven't been all that bowler friendly. Necessary for the pom batsmen to save test cricket be able to slog, but I don't think they offer much for Anderson. The cricket would be more exciting all round with some sideways movement. Then again even with a tinge...

*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

Bringing the game into disrepute is a nebulous and non specific grandfather clause, it doesn't necessarily imply or require cheating. Where is your evidence for the underlined? The only inquiry into the incident (by CA) found no such thing. Smith saw Warner and Bancroft in discussion and felt...

*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

When did Smith cheat? Who charged him with cheating and what was the charge, specifically? ps. what does it have to do with his mum anyway?

*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

Missed those...did they get away with any? Staying in your crease is considered your own responsibility, and not generally dependant on how the other team catches (or doesn't catch as the case may be). Etiquette is nice and has it's place (especially when convenient :D) but I'm not a stickler...

Welcome to Cricket Web - Cricket Chat

Ah, back in the day. I remember there was one poster on the old 606 boards (a pom) who was pretty old (in his 90's then from memory) who hated anything and everything Australian with some devotion. In fact he seemed to hate the world in general simply because Australia existed on it. :laugh...

*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

I can only assume that Ashes emotion has taken over. Ever since I first started playing it was accepted by all that you don't ground the ball during a catch, and you stayed in your crease until sure that the ball was no longer in play. It's difficult to believe a professional cricketer like...

*Official* Second Test (Lord's, London) 28 June–2 July

Around your way perhaps. Around these parts you will struggle to find anyone who doesn't remember it fondly. You might get the occasional fan who takes sport too seriously, but even amongst the prudes it still brings a chuckle usually. :D I thought it was a work of genius. Not because of any...
