But isn't that always the case ? Someone from the bottom five has to come good. I would say in B'lore, India has to survive the McGrath and Gillespie onslaught at the beginning and if that happens, things can change rapidly after that. That's why Chopra is vital to the equation just as he was...

    Waqar Younis

If Waqar maintained his form of 1990-1994 for a better part of his career and wasn't plagued by injuries that forced him to cut his pace, I think it won't be an exaggeration to say that he would have turned out to be the greatest fast bowler of all time.

    Waqar Younis

I wouldn't go that far. I think Ambrose was the most consitent performer if you take the whole decade of 90s, with McGrath in the same league, although he came into the picture only at the middle of the decade. Akram, Waqar and Donald are the next in line who were equally dangerous as the above...

Ganguly's old statement comes back to haunt him

The new BCCI chief, Ranbir Singh Mahendra, who was elected earlier this week was also the manager of the Indian team that toured Australia in 1991 which was Ganguly's debut series that ended in a debacle for him. In 2000 in an interview Ganguly called this guy "stupid" and said it was a shame...

First to score an ODI double century

I hope you realise ODIs and tests are quite different in terms of more defensive field settings in ODIs which leaves less room for a strokeplayer like Sehwag to survive all the way to a 200. As for that Ali Brown thing, I think it was a freak innings.I won't read too much into it, although I am...

First to score an ODI double century

Aren't we talking about ODIs here ?

    Ganguly v Tendulkar

What you are saying is the perception that exists in India and mostly among Mumbaikars that every cricketer in the team needs to show some deference to Sachin because he is a legend and he is above everything. Ganguly is the boss and has no necessity to show any such thing towards Sachin. Also...

And why was it overrated again ? When was the last time an Indian team came from a trip down under unscathed ? Go dust off your history books first before going on a rant.

    **Official** Australia in India Thread

Why is it non-sensical ? It gives valuable match practice and did you ever hear of something called video recording technology which is used to see how someon plays. So this logic of not exposing etc. is pure BS. Are you saying that MS Dhoni and Dinesh Kartik won't drop a single catch or make...

    India v India A in a 4-day warmup

Give me a break. Mumbai were thrashed fair and square by a superior team. You can try to spin things whichever way you want but that's the fact and so stop whining. Powar, Murali Kartik and Bahutule can show their wares against the Aussies now in the tour match from tomorrow. So if the others...

    Ganguly v Tendulkar

'Shambles' may not have been the right word, but it was no exaggeration that the Indian team had reached a very low point in 2000, with series loss at home too which is like the Alamo for Indian cricket in some sense.

I think I agree to that opinion. Current Indian batsman with the exception of a few cannot play spin bowling of a very high quality, that well. However they can play almost every sort of bowling very well on wickets that are slow and don't have much bounce on them. If there is too much turn, or...

    Pakistan vs India

Statistically comparing the whole period that India and Pakistan have been playing at the test level, Pakistan is the better team. Pakistan has beaten India more number of times in tests and ODIs which shows that in one-to-one contests Pakistan has the edge. When their overall test statistics...

I think this confirms that the Bangalore wicket helps the quicks more then the spinners. Depending on the performance of Yuvraj in this match versus Sriram's, I think a decision should be made about who should play in the first match. If Yuvraj continues his form of late, I think Sriram should...

    Ganguly v Tendulkar

As for point 2, he is not a bowling captain just like many others, and so he lacks the depth in really giving much valuable advise to a bowler on most occasions but I have seen him talk to bowlers quite frequently in fact and slowing down the over rate in such cases. I would say your points 3,4...

    Ganguly v Tendulkar

And is that stat for test matches or ODIs ? At any rate, can you name another Indian captain in recent memory who had a winning percentage like that ?

First to score an ODI double century

Yeah I agree with that. I think a Sehwag type player won't get a 200 unless its against some minnows. He is just too aggressive for that. It probably will be someone like Sachin or Ponting.

Which current players will score a Test 300?

Lara ofcourse already has a 300 and a 400. Inzamam also already has a 300 against NZ. I would put my money on Dravid getting there and maybe Sachin and Laxman too from the Indian batting lineup.

    Ganguly v Tendulkar

On-field tactics is a very subjective thing. He cannot be called useless at all, but ofcourse he isn't that brilliant either. I have seen him do pretty good with bowling changes and field placements and I have seen him do bad as well.It clicks sometimes and the tactics is hailed as good, and...
