    Kapil Dev vs Ryan Harris

well said .... the number of people who have given testimonies directly or indirectly associated with 'Imran's tampering' is massive, infact would come around 15. I once came across an article in which even Shahbaz Sheriff (current Pakistan PM) was seen accusing Imran of ball tampering...

    Kapil Dev vs Ryan Harris

yes ...... to score 5248 @ 81-82.5str: in the time period where King Viv(GOAT for many after a certain Bradman) scored 8540@70... that deserves huge weightage...

Kapil vs Shaun Pollock in Tests

Both formats combined and the contexts they played in, it is neck and neck.... still I would go for Pollock as the slightly better all rounder because of his convincingly better bowling credentials in main format, tests

    Ian Botham v Shaun Pollock

Both formats combined , It is Pollock for me. If Kapil added into mix, then Pollock, Kapil, Botham in that order..

    Kapil Dev vs Ryan Harris

All I can say w.r.t Kapil is that he is one player who is soo under rated by many fans because of his plain averages. They just ignore the adversities Kapil had to face thru out and also the highlights of his career. Extremely weak support bowling, huge word load( first 62 tests in just 5...

Sachin's stats against ATG Fast Bowlers

The following are the details of Sachin's record against all ATG bowlers he faced in his career. Need to give details of the abbreviations. AD - donald SP - pollock DS - steyn GM - mcgrath SW - warne IK - imran 2WS - wasim, waqar 2CS - walsh & ambrose RH - hadlee MM - murali vs AD or SP or...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

I am not saying that as an excuse because when some one has played 200 tests you expect such mammoth series from the batsman. All I am saying is that when pitted against Smith,Lara Kohli etc ,Sachin's this fact of ' short series where he averaged mammoth' too need to be taken into account...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

went thru decade wise averages ...Actually not much difference among averages starting from 90s. But I think the average not higher in this 2010 era has got to do with several other factors as well . But I don't think that has any thing to do with 'the impact of a specific batsman...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

part of this problem of Sachin can be attributed to his 'longevity in both formats combined'. Sachin averaged >80 in 16 series. but couldn't score >500 in any series because those series were very short ones.

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

I already told about the 3 Indian bowlers. W.R.T Abbas the only instance he played against Smith was this match https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-world-test-championship-2019-2021-1195334/australia-vs-pakistan-2nd-test-1183531/full-scorecard Literally Abbas was thrashed to oblivion even...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

i don't think that is the case... Agreed that there have been normal share of low scoring matches in 2010 decade . But there has been huge scores scored as usual too. A casual 'going thru scorecards' of matches is enough to realize this.

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

no .....it is the other way around.... that is the in built nature of the game itself.... All that is required even for a high quality batsman is to get a single nasty delivery to put full stop to his inns. The more <25 averaging bowlers means 'the more frequent in general' you would have...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

again, when that peak period of 13607 runs is by far larger than Smith's total count of 7540, there is nothing wrong in selecting that peak for a comparison. Let us agree to disagree on this particular matter.

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

the comparison at hand is between Smith & Sachin. When Smith has faced only 3 <25 averaging bowlers against Sachin's 20/21 what is there to even think about what you told?
  16. R

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

whether it be batting friendly or not , Sachin came against lots and lots of <25 averaging bowlers thru out his career. How many <25 averaging bowlers Smith faced in his career till date ? Only 3 comes to mind ... Steyn,Philander & Rabada. Ashwin& Jadeja has <25 but would sure be going...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

I think you excluded runs against Zimbabwe too. ZIM was at least a lower ranked side with the Flower brothers,Houghtan,Campbell,Brandes,Streak, Strang,Godwin etc forming the core group. That means Sachin could still score 12787 runs @57.35 average.Again Sachin had to cope with lots of <25...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

but the cherry picked number of runs is (13607-7540)/7540 = 81% more the number of runs of the first player. That is the important factor here. Again every body knows that Sachin unnecessarily carried a bit too far after the 2011 world cup win.Even at that stage he averaged 57 after...

Top 30 batsmen of the modern era (1990s -Current)

You yourself would know the reason as to why Bradman is rated very highly, I assume. Despite being from decades back, Bradman is rated so highly because of his average. That is not the case with Smith-Lara. On a side note , Sachin has a stretch of 13607 runs(still better than 2nd placed...
