Here's hoping for a Sehwag special coming up!

    Tallest cricketers

Speaking of these tall cricketers, who are some less than ideal height fast bowlers who nonetheless bowled at express pace? Waqar and Gough come to mind among those I've seen. Neither seems particularly tall compared to the likes of the other express bowlers of their time. And of course Marshall.

You either get people out by drying up the runs or you dry up the runs by getting people out. Either one works! In general, am quite impressed by England's RR. I think this might be one of very few games in the last year or so where the opposition has outscored the Indian RR by this much.

    Tallest cricketers

I think the tallest player to ever play for India, which along with SL probably has the shortest average height, is Abey Kurruvilla at 6'7". Other fairly tall people probably include Yuvraj, Laxman, Kumble - all strike me as fairly tall.

Would be great to see some Sehwag fireworks tomorrow if we can clean England up quickly. Would make for an interesting declaration and hopefully a result in the game.

Players Who Should Give Up On Playing Test Cricket

"Past their prime" they might be, but that doesn't equal "not good enough".

If this finishes off with a SA victory - that's two amazing chases in the span of a week! :o

    Rahul Dravid

Nice thing is, among all the Indian batsmen, Dravid is probably the best at playing in NZ conditions.

Yes, and if Yuvraj, Sharma or Raina had been out of form for ~2 years they would've disappeared from international cricket forever. Something to be said for a man who can command a spot in arguably the best batting lineup in the world despite that. It's good you weren't watching because you...

Batsmen who deserved 50 test avg

Agree with this. I feel like to an extent, Laxman was misused during the start of his career. I believe if you exclude all the matches where he was asked to open the innings (~20 or so) his average jumps from 45 to about 49. At one point, I figured Ganguly would end up with an average of 50+...

    Rahul Dravid

Whether or not he's back in form, good to see Dravid scoring runs again, though. I always imagined the way to really get yourself out of a tough slump is to really clamp down and just fight for every run. If you've been out of form for as long as Dravid has, it's highly unlikely you're going to...

Those who should have played more

Agree with this. I feel like Zimbabwe produced a host of world class cricketers during the early 90s - many of whom could've had long and fruitful careers under different circumstances. Andy Flower and Heath Streak were a world apart. Grant Flower, Neil Johnson, Murray Goodwin were right up...

Those who should have played more

People I would've liked to see more of or thought they could've had longer careers if not for injury, selection, trouble, etc. Saqlain Mushtaq - felt like he could've ended up with gobs and gobs of ODI wickets had he kept going. Damien Fleming - could've made it in almost any other country, but...

Agreed. For a team that's had Mongia, MSK Prasad, Dinesh Karthik, Sameer Dighe, and Parthiv Patel as wicket-keepers in the last almost 2 decades, having someone who can bat like Dhoni is a sheer blessing. Here is a guy, who, for a change can actually win matches with the bat on a fairly regular...

    Rahul Dravid

Thing is no matter how fast the over all scoring situation becomes, there will always be room for players like Dravid who often plays the supporting role to the big so-called "modern" innings. There could not have been a 281 by VVS Laxman without Dravid, for example. Nor so many other innings...

I think India, England and Pakistan probably rate as the three teams most likely to really flux things up from a good situation.

Who do you think the best bowlers are at present??

Yeah, and I remember at the time Zaheer came in, India was really hurting for some good fast bowlers. Besides Srinath, we didn't really have anyone who was decent and/or capable of staying fit. I remember we'd play some test matches with Srinath and Ganguly opening the bowling with 3 spinners...

    Rahul Dravid

IMO Dravid makes a match-winning century in the next match and then retires. My prediction. :D

Who do you think the best bowlers are at present??

Although you're right, that's pretty much what Indian fast bowlers' role is in test cricket. Take a quick wicket or two at the start if you can, and make way for the spinners. And he's done a fairly decent job of that in the last couple of years since his return to test cricket. I'm afraid as...

Courtney Walsh: underrated great, all-time bowler?

Wonder whatever happened to Mervyn Dillon and Reon King... Neither of them at the Ambrose/Walsh level but they seemed like Walsh's natural successors at the time and were quite decent if I remember...
