    CW50 2nd Edition - No 02

Didn't vote in this because did not get the opportunity before it closed. Just out of curiosity, I know that there were some votes not counted. Would they have made a difference? I am trying to save my opinion of the CW community here. :sadwalk:

***Official*** Australia in the West Indies 2012

Except the Australian team would actually come out and play if given the ultimatum.

2019 & 2023 WC are again 10 Nations and World T20 back to 16 Nations

Ten teams is a ****ing disgrace, 16 should be absolute minimum. The associate cricketing nations must be thinking "Why do we ****ing bother?". The tournament will be much poorer for their absence.

British Pathe - reels of Grace and Hobbs batting

Not sure how strokeplay can be antiquated. It was certainly much more individual back then but they had no examples yet of what types of technique would be successful. Players have become much more homogenized as it has become apparent what is required in a successful technique.

    Shaun Pollock

ODIs after 2000 McGrath Average of 20.28 and econ rate of 3.78 and strike rate of 32.1 Pollock Average of 24.98 and econ rate of 3.62 and strike rate of 41.3 So there was at least one other bowler with an average under 4.5 and I would pick him ahead of Pollock based on those figures. Edit...

    Shaun Pollock

And my thought was "What is wrong with that?". Entertaining the public is the primary reason for a cricketer's existence. Performance is merely a means to that end.

    *Official* Indian Premier League 2012

Because they were average players of spin.

    Shaun Pollock

I probably meant it in a bit of a different sense than it usually is meant. There has been a lot of discussion who the ATG bowlers are. Names like Marshall, McGrath, Imran, Hadlee etc get thrown around and I don't think that he is quite in that company.

    Shaun Pollock

Shaun Pollock is one of those almost players for me. Almost a great bowler, almost a good batsman, not quite a genuine all-rounder. Fantastic cricketer but just not in the discussion for great all-rounders.

Inzamam the best player of quicks after viv?

I think Burgey might be on to something with Mark Taylor though.

The Most Glamorous Cricket Of Them All?

w.g. grace Beards were apparently more highly thought of back then.

Inzamam the best player of quicks after viv?

I would say the best player of quicks I have seen (including Viv) is Allan Border. It seemed for so many years that he was all that was stopping the Windies barrage.

    The Professional XI

Might be confusing professional with sporting here. You can be a total bastard on the field and still be professional. But didn't Ambrose have a couple of tours where he just did not care and bowled badly? That would rule him out.

Should Vettori switch & play ODIs/IT20s again instead of Tests?

Where is the "No because who cares about ODIs and T20s" option?

    The great 1980s all rounders

Imran over Hadlee on strength of better batting. They are are well clear of the other two for me because they have one skill (bowling) at ATG level. Botham over Dev on basis that he is more likely to throw in a match winning performance.

So why do England play spin so abysmally now?

I will concede they are better against spin than pace.

    What worth are rankings anymore?

Since Australia went to Sri Lanka??

5 cricketers of the century and a bit?

Sir Frank Worrell deserves a mention. His captaincy (with some help from Benaud) saved us from a decade where test cricketers tried to bore spectators to death. Cricket might be a niche sport now if it was not for him.

    the new zealand dilemma

I think that is a bit of a myth that other countries have more resources than NZ for rugby. Other countries are much larger but rugby is not the main sport. The actual number of rugby players is not much larger for most countries (except maybe SA). Pretty sure NZ are not lacking in funds for...
