The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

I am going to be magnanimous here, and assume that this was a failed attempt at humour.

Paranoia about umpires reaches new low

There is apparently a match between Vatican XI and Archbishop of Canterbury XI. The Vatican has a problem with the umpire because He was a bishop 200 years ago and they are still worried about bias. Cricket Expert Told He Can't Umpire Game Between Church Teams Because His Ancestor...

What cricketing memories remain locked in your archive for eternity?

Wasim Akram vs Mark Taylor at Melbourne 1989. This is the best I can remember Akram bowling and the duel between him and Taylor was memorable.

    Australia's next test debutant

After recent performances, he might have moved into favouritism.

    It's the foreign coach , stupid !

I don't really pay close attention to coaches. Who are the successful foreign coaches we can point at?

    Larwood 'medium paced'

I look at the sports where they have objective measurements and, weirdly, athletes from the past are always worse than the athletes today. There must be something about sports with subjective measurements that attracted all the freakish athletes from olden days.

***Official*** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2014

I thought this was a lost art a few years back but a few sides recently have resurrected it.

How good are the tests at the moment...?

Steyn and Johnson are really the only two around at the moment and they are both aging too.

What is your ALL TIME WORLD XI TEAM for tests?

Particulary when you consider that Ponting's average after 93 games was 55.37

    Speed or Action?

Tait was plenty terrifying ... for about 4 overs. After that, no so much.

    Speed or Action?

It looks to which I watch a slow motion video.

When will Philander average > 20?

Some may not rate individuals at all but rate teams seeing as how the rest of the team affects a bowler's performance so much. Personally I rate bowlers by the quality of their moustache but that's just me.

    Speed or Action?

Johnson's action no doubt makes him seem even faster than he is. The ball disappears from batsman's view partway through his action, just like Thommo.

    No 2 keeper-batsman

AB and Dhoni are really batsmen who can keep a bit but that seems to be teams are after.

***Official*** Australia in South Africa 2013/14

Better than the Telegraph which almost ignored the game altogether. It all NRL all the time over there.

Greatest opener of the last 20 years?

HIs form years were too early to be considered. Gary Kirsten, maybe?

Mark Nicholas is the worst cricket commentator by a distance. He has been reduced to counting now.

Your top ten TEST bowlers of ALL-TIME

    What are you talking about?

Who will be the next bower to do a "Johnson"?

Has to be Shaun Tait, doesn't it?

Oh, I thought you were going to say that this proves that the rest of SA sucks at sport.
