    Best Bowling All Rounder

That is why I don't value peak performance as an indicator. Too many variables. At least over a long career, it must even out a bit.

    Best Bowling All Rounder

I thought we had an article a while back which conclusively decided that Keith Miller was the best all-rounder. Has something changed? :p

Leading Oz coaches refuse to teach doosra

Are wrist spinners and finger spinners both included in the spinners group? That might explain the variability. Wrist spinners would have stuff all elbow extension.

What is the definition of a 'choke'?

The definition of a choke is where you lose after having a significant advantage by making errors which you have not displayed up until this point.

**Official** Group D Discussion - Pakistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh

Well, at least NZ stuffed up their order when it does not matter. Probably on some sort of stupid LH/RH batsman theory. Just have to hope they were paying attention.

    What the tournament needs...

I don't mind the minnows being in. It can show how good some players are when you see them against lesser opposition. And to be fair, the minnows usually cause an upset or two to shake up tournaments.

**Official** Group B Discussion - Australia, West Indies, Ireland

I have a horrible feeling he is attempting to invent a catchphrase for himself.

Best pace trios (outside of WI of 70's and 80's)

Donald and Pollock would still be the best 2 bowlers there. Steyn may pass them but not yet . Those three are considerably better than the other 3 which is why the 90s attack would get my vote.

Best pace trios (outside of WI of 70's and 80's)

JJ Ferris Charlie Turner Fred Spofforth They would be hard to beat for career averages.

    Ranking the great fast bowlers

Grimmett was a throw-away line not to be taken seriously, sorry. I would say you have missed MacGill from that list as well. And if we are talking about impact on the game of cricket, Warne>>>Murali. Edit: And thread successfully derailed.

Why can't anyone decide on two openers in an all-time Australian XI?

Pretty sure that Bradman never saw Trumper bat so how would he know. He is guessing like the rest of us.

    Ranking the great fast bowlers

Better batsman, better fieldsman. better tactician, less friendly conditions to bowl in, etc, etc. It's an argument never to be resolved, who is the second best spinner after Grimmett.

Why can't anyone decide on two openers in an all-time Australian XI?

I think Charles Bannerman should be included in this conversation. I admit he only opened for Australia 3 times but one of those innings might still be the best innings ever played by an Australian batsman.

    Do you like Ricky Ponting?

Still possibly my favourite batsman to watch after 30 runs. I would pay a fair amount to the "Stop Ricky making ads" fund, though.

    George Bailey

The format where I have my doubts on Bailey is T20. I just can't quite see him being as successful there as in the longer forms.

    Starc vs Pattinson vs Cummins

The bowler that Starc reminds me of is Bruce Reid, which is no bad thing. It is really way to early to have any sensible idea of who may be best. If all goes right, Australia could have a seriously good pace attack. And if Hazlewood can overcome his injuries, he might be better than all of them.

    Best Australians since WSC?

Wasn't Border involved in WSC era on the establishment side?

    Dhoni Vs Gilchrist in ODIs.

Well, I see a separate thread and poll has been opened to answer the Bevan question. One thing I think is forgotten here is the quality of the bowling that Bevan faced for most of his career. I am not even sure I take Dhoni over Michael Hussey who has a very similar record. And are you calling...
  19. Debris

Clash of the titans, Dhoni vs Bevan

Bevan easily once I think about the bowlers he had to face and that he had no batting powerplay to help him.
  20. Debris

During which era have bowling attacks across test cricket been the strongest?

Statistically it was probably the 1890's and early 1900's.
