*Official Third Test at Headingley* 25-29 August

Was just replying to that post. I think we've all seen that he can score runs against good bowling such as Oval 2018, Lords 2014 or Nottingham 2021. I just think in terms of technique (not when hitting out with the tail), he is a step up from peak batsman Stuart Broad (i.e., the best you'd get...

Massive difference between their bowling, at the moment. Jadeja looks like a part-timer in England. Ash has been quality for a while and has lots of experience in England.

Games like this really reassert that a lot of the bowling prospects in Indian domestic cricket are nowhere near Test standard.

Yes - three is ridiculous. But I think five or six would work well - Ashwin at eight and three pacers.

The numbers are what they are but I think he's been looking technically proficient. This is why I think he deserves the promotion.

    India Doom and Gloom Thread

Rohit Sharma has been very good since returning to the team, to be fair.

    India Doom and Gloom Thread

Four number XIs has to end immediately - it would not be acceptable for any other side so don't know why it is for us. Ashwin needs to come in. It is overrating them to think that dropping anyone of Siraj, Shami or Ishant will result in disaster - especially when they'd be dropped for Ashwin who...

Long-term injury recovery means he's not yet ready to bowl in a Test match.

Yes it's a great point well-made and tbh, I'm on the fence.

I disagree but I'm sure time will tell. Average of 34.72 is not too shabby and seems to be getting better.

Ok you're right that what I wrote was a bit ridiculous. I think I'm just frustrated with the middle order and taking it out on the bowlers.

Yes this - very hard for him to know what to do with such a weak tail and spineless middle order.

*Official Third Test at Headingley* 25-29 August

Maybe, maybe not. The Indian pace line-up is a tad overrated though. Numbers are numbers and I know they've always been loved here but I think they've played on a lot of bowler friendly pitches over the past few years. They are obviously very strong but not without weaknesses, such as Siraj...

The caught behind? Yes big gap but I think he even thought he hit it because he started walking. Butler knew it wasn't out though, imo.

It is the hundreds which are the big issue. That 90 was exactly the same as a 40 or 60 from Pujara in that it was kinda useless. It took grit to get there but to not kick on really impacted the utility. Same for Kohli's knock and even Rohit's knock. The bowlers and freak batting performances...

Agree. I think he looks like a great find for Test cricket. Got good skills. The seaming ball in the channel is a great weapon, the inducker hones on the weaknesses of many and he even has a serviceable bouncer also.

Not fair on Jadeja's batting. He's been in some very difficult situations where he's had to tee off with the tail.

I don't see how India come back from this. The batting is just piss poor against the moving ball. England don't even need to bowl that straight. Just hang it outside off and they'll go fishing.

Next Test is at the Oval. Flat pitch where England will be able to bat but India will manage to edge them by sticking the bat outside off stump to the swinging ball.

Something needs to change in India because that batting was just not good enough.
