    *Official* Second Test at Lord's - Aug 12-16 2021

"It's a spoiler" - to paraphrase Paul Heyman. My view is either England 400+ or a Siraj 5fer.

India have the far better bowling line-up. This will be an interesting experiment to see just how much worse India's batting is than England's.

Embarrassing performance from India. India need to think about how long Pujara and Rahane have as "certainties".

Watched a lot of the day. Rahul, Rohit and Jimmy were in a different league to everyone else. With India's four number 11s, I think their score can be regarded as more like 276/4 and so not as ahead as it seems. Pujara looks completely shot. I think as a temporary measure he should bat at six...

Yes. I hate to sound like an idiot but no amount of data will make me believe that is true.

They also put up a stat saying he averages 149 against right arm pace.

With rain in the air and a clearish forecast, it could be a big toss to win and bowl first.

What changes will England make for the second Test?

Naturally, as an Indian fan, hoping for no Hameed.

That Bumrah six was glorious. Just an absolute smack.

I can see him acting like Thakur in the first Test in taking crucial wickets at crucial times. EDIT: In addition to our inability to get him out unless he lets us.

Moeen's counterattack could be extremely useful for England. Moeen and Butler could have a similar impact to Pant and Jadeja in being able to swing a game quickly.

I'm just so curious to see how he does with the ball at Test level.

As much as I hate watching him score runs against us - it is clear that he has a genuine winning mentality when he bats. He definitely doesn't see it like a beachball when he gets in but he picks his ball, knocks it to the boundary and he's on 10-15 before you know it and looking very settled...

I still disagree but I'm tired of this discussion but let's return to it another day.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Particularly when there is a narrow view of what constitutes evidence (i.e. raw numbers). What do you mean about seam movement? I don't understand the sentence.

It is not harder than the 1990s but perhaps harder than in Michael Clarke's era - only perhaps though, not "obviously". Techniques these days are not great for Test cricket. Batsmen are scoring less runs partially because they're jumping between formats. A prime Sir Alistair Cook would have had...

It could, if applied recklessly. Being able to disprove something is important for science but cricket is not a science, whatever statsguru advocates would have you believe.

Yes - he's a definite fantastic batsman. What he's great at is the positivity to get through the nervy early period of the innings and then once he's in, he's obviously extremely solid. I just disagree that it is harder to score runs in this era but rather that batsmen are typically worse at it.

Quality of batting seems lower though, even though the bowling quality is fairly high.
