*Official* New Zealand in Sri Lanka

NZ has beaten SL 18 times in tests: SL has beaten NZ 10 times in tests (soon to become 11 by the looks of it): NZ's largest margins of victory (by an innings) were by an innings and 65 runs at Colombo in 2019 (Latham scored 154) followed by an innings and 61 runs at Colombo in 1984 (Hadlee...

Create an all time best Test XI using only one player from each country...

Come on now, you ought to give the fellow a break: he has 5 posts, you have 10,699, he has 31 minutes, you have over 12 years! It's like Prime Mike Tyson beating up on a two-year-old!

    Benaud's Batting vs Hadlee's Batting

OMG, you should DEFINITELY consider being an astrologer because I've just discovered the following: Benaud's height of 1.83 m is 6' 0" so you were spot on when you said that Hadlee (6' 1") was ahead by an inch!!!

    Benaud's Batting vs Hadlee's Batting

It's funny you should say that as Ashwin is an inch ahead of Hadlee since he's 6' 2" while Hadlee is 6' 1"!: Hadlee would probably be a bit shorter these days.

    Ashwin's batting vs Hadlee's batting

Only members whose names start with an "s" have voted for Ashwin (maybe because "spin" starts with an "s") while no such members have yet voted for Hadlee: This is intolerable and can't be allowed to continue. Immediate action needs to be taken, now that it has become personal: Yes! That's...

    Benaud's Batting vs Hadlee's Batting

For each test match, there would be two playing XI's so 22 players altogether and each player would be credited with a test match whether or not they bat in that particular match. As I mentioned in my post, I might be missing something here but it seems to work out with the subsequent calculations.

    Benaud's Batting vs Hadlee's Batting

    Hadlee's test batting: Benaud's test batting: Not taking their different eras into account: Hadlee's average/Benaud's average: 27.16/24.45 = 1.111 (!) Hadlee's average is 11.1% better Hadlee's runs per match (RPM): 3124/86 = 36.3 Benaud's RPM: 2201/63 = 34.9 36.3/34.9 = 1.040...

I don't recall seeing this before:

    Benaud's Batting vs Hadlee's Batting

To hell with that purity nonsense, I'm here to support my favourite, Sir Richard. Done: Luckily, my name was just long enough.
  10. S

    Benaud's Batting vs Hadlee's Batting

Benaud is leading this poll because his supporters have longer names: I should vote for Hadlee to help him out but I won't because I think they're very close and I'm not sure which one is better.

The Great Allrounders in County Cricket

In the old days (when corporal punishment in schools was more prevalent), I wonder whether a cruel English teacher ever made students say some non-swearing version of your tongue twister, hoping for the students to slip up thus giving the teacher an excuse to cane those students?

The Great Allrounders in County Cricket

I'm teetotal but I raised a virtual glass to your post anyway! This list is missing one of my favourites: "Imagine an imaginary menagerie manager managing an imaginary menagerie" (I've just seen an alternative version: "Imagine an imaginary menagerie manager imagining managing an imaginary...

The Great Allrounders in County Cricket

George Hirst is the only cricketer to do the double double, i.e. 2000 or more runs and 200 or more wickets in first-class matches in a single season, a feat he achieved in 1906: from https://stats.acscricket.com/Archive/Seasons/Seasonal_Averages/ENG/1906_f_Batting_by_Runs.html: from...

The Great Allrounders in County Cricket

We really should be calling him Chadlee (or CHadlee) in this thread, firstly, because of his alpha male level bowling, secondly, because goats can be quite frisky, thirdly, because his first name is Richard, and fourthly, to make it clear that we are referring to the County Hadlee (we could call...

The Great Allrounders in County Cricket

Hadlee was given a benefit season by Notts in 1986 but he didn't want to just take the money and run: he felt he owed them one more season, 1987, which turned out to be his greatest for them. He topped the bowling averages, came third in the batting averages, and had the best all-round...

The Great Allrounders in County Cricket

I never really gave it much thought, I just noticed that Curran's conversion rate from 50 to 100 really dropped off once he was at Northants but your post has got me thinking (and perhaps irresponsibly speculating) a bit more. In 139 matches at Gloucestershire, he passed 50 a total of 16 + 27 =...
