I don't think we should be totally dismissive of someone like Chris Rogers getting a run against New Zealand despite his age. Remember this is a completely new selection panel, and that the Argus Report instructs them to reward results above other considerations (ie age). Given how jittery the...

    Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

Anyone know what's happening with Burt ****ley? I seem to pose this question at about the same time every season when it becomes apparent he's mia for whatever reason :(

    Australian Domestic Season 2011-12

Huge innings this from Wade, given Haddin's poor year with the bat and Paine's injury. Rescued Vics from a precarious position against two of last year's Ashes attack. Hope he can convert it into a big ton.

    Butt/Amir/Asif - Spot Fixing Trial

Good outcome imo. Looks a bit harsh at first glance, but it sends a clear message to others who might be susceptible to corruption about just how high the stakes are. I fear this is only going to be the tip of the iceberg though...Pakistan have been involved in some pretty dubious results over...

    Zaheer on Indian bowling

True, but I was refering to the individuals as much as the culture behind them. The Pakistani fast bowlers over the past decade or two have generally appeared fitter than their Indian counterparts imo. They've had specimens like Waqar and Umar Gul who are obviously in pretty good shape, even...

    Zaheer on Indian bowling

You could argue that Indians are inherently less given to being as tall and perhaps having the same fast-twitch muscle profile as players from other parts of the world, but every healthy male and certainly every professional athlete, given the time and resources they've got available, is capable...

Reading all these quotes from Mickey Arthur saying we have to pick Cummins and Johnson in the same attack while disregarding Copeland makes me wonder if he's still on the Cricket South Africa payroll.

Ponting had been in the state system for 3 years and scored mountains of runs in that time. Clarke's FC numbers weren't great but he'd still been playing shield cricket for NSW regularly for a couple of years and his one day numbers were very good when he was initially picked for the ODI side...

Had an inkling they'd pick Cummins, premature yet predictable. I think he's in a very similar situation to Brett Lee at the same age, in terms of ability and potential. It's a sign of the times that while the national setup were well aware of Lee and his potential as early as 1995, they didn't...

Lyon will definitely be in the squad, but there's a fair chance of Hauritz or possibly even O'Keefe being picked too. And once they're in the squad there's always the possibility they'll outbowl Lyon in the warm up and sneak into the test side ahead of him.

WTF is Matthews doing, Dilshan should declare on him right now.

Disagree. I know it's very flat, but Watson, Ponting and Clarke haven't shown any capacity for patience in quite some time and Hughes looks like a walking wicket at the moment. Plus the humidity here is completely foreign to all our players, they're all pretty visibly affected by it which I...

    Johnson this series thus far, 30 runs @ 7, 5 wickets @ 52.

Greatest ever batsman with the tail?

Granted I've never seen him bat so I'm hardly qualified to comment. But out of curiosity what made this guy who averaged low-30s and never hit a test hundred "without a doubt" better at batting with the tail than the likes of Waugh, Border, Gilchrist, Lara, etc.

Greatest ever batsman with the tail?

Steve Waugh. Took the novel approach of actually trusting them with some strike. Lee, McGrath, Gillespie and Fleming all improved their batting significantly while playing alongside Waugh and I reckon alot of that can be put down to his faith and tutoring.

It'll be interesting to see if the new selection regime with their focus on rewarding performance above all else will reconsider that decision if Hughes continues to look woeful and Katich starts the SS season well.

Good call from Clarke. Already showing he's able to be more flexible and progressive with selections than Ponting ever was. Not dead-keen on Marsh at 3 when we go to South Africa, but I like the look of Ponting, Clarke and Hussey batting one lower.

Respect for disciplined medium pace - PK and Copeland

Vaas was alot quicker than PK or Copeland for most of his career. He started off quite brisk (135kph+), and he operated at about 128-130kph from 2000ish onwards. T'was only at the very end that he slowed right down.
