    Cricket australia contracts

I think/hope Cosgrove is right in the frame. We're going to lose Katich, Ponting, Hussey and possibly Haddin over the next year or two, so we could certainly use someone with Cosgrove's class and relative experience in or around the setup. I'd certainly rather him than Ferguson...

Ricky Ponting steps down as Captain (Updated)

This. He's been a wonderful servant of Australian cricket for a long time and he's obviously built up a lot of credit with the selectors over the years, but I think it's more or less run out. He's 36 and coming off a summer where he averaged about 20 in FC cricket with a single fifty and we...

    Shoaib Akhtar or Brett Lee?

I agree with you on Lee, and if the question were "who had the better career?" then I'd likely have to go for Lee on account of his longevity and better ODI record. However as great as Lee's attitude was and as much as I'm sure he would've been a real pain in the ass to face, I just don't think...

    Shoaib Akhtar or Brett Lee?

I think the fact Shoaib was unfit, had a poor attitude and was just generally a **** obscures in alot of people's minds just how good he actually was. There were always the off-field distractions and he was always prone to having an off day where he just didn't seem to give a stuff and his...

    ***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Hmm McGrath was never express but he always operated mainly in the 127-135kph bracket, even at the very end. Copeland is routinely 115-120kph, there's a very significant difference at the batsman's end between 130 and 115kph.

    ***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Yeah they could do worse than giving him a go I suppose, never know til you try.. I just fear he'll be like Stu Clark at The Oval or a late-career Shaun Pollock, where for all their skill and control they weren't even able to be economical on flat tracks because the ball was coming out at 118kph.

    ***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Hmm Hilf has very good fundamentals though. As ineffective as he's been sometimes of late, he still bowls a heavy ball at 135-145 kph and he consistently gets it to move away... His control is the icing on the cake. Not that pace and looking good matters if you can take stacks of wickets, but...

    ***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

Agree on Wade being a better bat than Paine, he just needs a really big shield season to make it obvious to all concerned. Paine looks the better keeper at this stage though tbh

Given recent selection policy or lack thereof I don't think anyone can be 'fairly sure' of anything.

Better Test Batsman::: A Border vs. S Waugh

Steve Waugh for me, I think his contribution purely as a batsman is generally underappreciated, probably because he wasn't always the most fluent player. People tend to remember him as a gritty and dependable accumulator, but it's worth remembering that for a few years in the mid-90's he was...

    ***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2010/11

In all seriousness, it'll probably only take another 1-2 performaces like that for the remainder of this shield season to put Lyon on the plane to Sri Lanka

Bollinger still looks unfit as **** to me, he's red in the face and blowing like a teapot after 3 overs. I know he's never going to be a supreme athlete, but how hard it is to get fit when you're a professional

    Some interesting stats?

For what it's worth I've been advocating Dussey at 6 for a couple of years lol

*Official* Fifth Test at the SCG

 Plenty of merit in that comparison at this stage unfortunately. And re Khawaja on the front foot, that certainly caught my eye as well, there have been murmurings around for a while that he's a bit Cook-ish when the ball is full around his off stump. And he looked very unconvincing...

Who needs to come in at Sydney?

Batting Dussey at 6 while the series was alive would've been very logical, sadly logic doesn't seem to hold much sway at the moment. Who knows, maybe if we'd had Dussey coming in at four down on the first morning in Adelaide or Melbourne instead of North or Smith things would've panned out...

Should Australia drop Michael Clarke for the Fifth Test?

Unless his career mirrors Ponting's, in which case he's got another 1-2 years before he starts to decline... But yeah, leaving him out for Sydney would be ridiculous....Nothing would suprise me from this selection panel though...

*Official* Fifth Test at the SCG

Don't think they can afford Johnson and Cameron in the same attack (assuming they're playing 3 seamers). Cameron always tends to go for a few because he bowls an aggressive length and his control isn't top notch, so if Johnson has one of his bad days (which is about an 80% likelyhood on any...

Where would you bat Ponting ?

I know, don't feed the troll etc...Still wanted to illustrate a point lol
