    David Warner retirement thread

If anything it sounds like: a) it wasn't his idea b) we've done it before

    David Warner retirement thread

I notice he didn't answer any question on the specifics of the incident. Even when asked if it was 'his plan' he only took responsibility for 'his part' in this.

    David Warner retirement thread

I think it must be dawning on him that he can't just hit a run a ball hundred and move on this time. Being at home with his family should bring this all into focus too.

    David Warner retirement thread

I don't think he's up to it off the cuff to really deliver an apology and needs more time + some input from his manager and a good lawyer. He's got a lot to lose so he didn't risk a press conference yet. As it stands he's ultimately to blame. When I think about it, he needs to explain: 1)...

    Darren Lehmann resigns

I suppose it's a tricky situation. If he takes more responsibility then he should fall on his sword. He's walking fine line to save his own neck no doubt.

    David Warner retirement thread

I wonder if the ECB and CA will step up and take on the ***ist banter of the Barmy Army and it's malign influence on the game.

    David Warner retirement thread

That's not how it went down. The top players were given all they wanted to try and buy them off. They stood firm and bargained for the state players and women.

With hindsight I think he understands now his mistake. He was right on principle to insist the players do what they are asked and to follow team rules, but wrong with the severity of the punishment. These guys aren't paid peanuts. In any job there's a risk of disciplinary action if you don't...

Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

Now that the punishments have been made, I hardly expect any players with knowledge to come out and incriminate themselves. It will probably all come out once they retire. It won't lessen the penalties for Smith/Warner so I don't see how they will want to expose others. If someone within the...

Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

I think the initial reports were that it was yellow tape used on their bats iirc. That's a different method to sandpaper in that it implies more pre-meditation to acquire the materials. Not just some dumb Warner idea at a break in play to use some tape around the place.

Baggy Green ball tampering: Bancroft, Smith and the Aussie "Leadership Group"

CA could really tackle the problem by aiming the change the culture of state cricket too. If the national team are all fluffy and nice for a few years, old ways will simply return later

Cheating is so out of step with what is expected, i'm not surprised their was some response. As they say test captain is the 2nd most important job in the country.
