I'm quite enjoying the Mighty Ducks memes right now. Bombay for England!

England is not even on the same level of ability in football as the All Blacks are to Rugby though. They are a consistent top 20 side, not number 1.

Great header by Giroud, looking at the replay, the ball played to him was in the perfect position to engage the man in front and cause his marker to follow him.

He'll do well at Arsenal. Swiss unlucky to be knocked out. Could have put to bed in the first half, but regrouped and created more towards the end of the game.

The saints have turned around a woeful performance against the Crows to beat top. I guess we can't let them off the hook for a lack of talent anymore, they should be competing week in week out for the rest of the year.

What a performance from C Ronaldo. His first goal was simply brilliant. Without the yips I guess he'd be the top scorer in the tournament right now.

    Bad teams at international tournaments

I think it is ingrained in the English psyche to underestimate Germany regardless of the situation. Also comparing teams man for man works 'ok' in a 5 match test series but is pretty useless in football as only the midfield really go head to head. Having a better keeper, wingers and back four...

So Portugal is the only team left in the Tournament without a win. I wonder what the odds are they could win the whole thing without a victory?

Group C - Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Northern Ireland

NI did much better in the 2nd half. Given how many chance Germany had early, 1-0 was a good result in the end. Quite a disciplined and coordinated side, no fuss with the refs as well which makes them even more likeable, seem to play with the same demeanour as their manager on the touchline.

Just seems odd, given the racism controversies of the past, to make a stand now.

The Pies are the highest valued sporting brand in Aus so they could get a replacement. I thought it was Holden seeking an exit clause as they are cooked in Australia once the plant closes in Adelaide.

I guess clubs just have the incentive to just wait out an issue like this as it was poor behaviour but minor enough to blow over in a few weeks. Whereas the resulting longer term damage is to the AFL brand, not their club.

You could say that, but against teams that make more mistakes they will punish them with the same game plan that looks overly patient against compact defences. So it's often a combo of the two factors I think.

Group B - England, Russia, Wales, Slovakia

Replay shows it was an awkward height to deal with I think.

What a goal! Slovakia running riot.

Group A - France, Romania, Albania, Switzerland

I guess France do have to mix it up, I thought Pogba did ok, but overplayed it a bit, almost like he wanted to do a clever dummy/turn regardless of whether it was needed. They got the win but their ball movement was pretty poor and didn't really trouble a compact defence bar the moment of Payet...

    Euro 2016 pub

The group games are often defensive but quite tense so having 16 teams go through possibly taken away a bit of the drama from results. That will amplify again once we get to the knockouts I think.

I'd be putting Vardy on as a swap for Kane in the 2nd half simply because he has the midas touch at the moment and will probably score or create chances. Kane had a couple assists for the entire EPL season so if he doesn't score it's not likely he will create for others either.

Bein sports has been good. But maybe just because its different voices to fox. Ruud Gullit is not bad.
