Getting some nice swing though. Really he just needs to keep it in a good area and bottle up that end while O'Rourke goes to work at the other.

O'Rourke's put on a lot of pace since last season. 149k for the Bethell dismissal. If he can stay fit he'll be a weapon on the 2026 Aus tour.

Nice work from O'Rourke. Roughing Bethell up with the short stuff and then throwing up the faster away swinger.

Yeah, which makes it all the more infuriating to see the ghost of Southee in the team. There's oodles of fast bowling talent around the domestic scene at the moment.

Nah, just couldn't get the new ball with southee and Boult in the team, and didn't really know how to take wickets at first change.

He was definitely quicker than Carse a couple of years ago. He's had a few injuries since then though.

Quite good timing for NZ. Will allow Henry to bowl pretty much non-stop for the first 25 overs, given the upcoming lunch break.

Think it's time to get Carse on at Potts end. This is just looking too comfortable for O'Rourke.

I think England's attitude is basically this pitch is only going to get better to bat on today, so we really don't care how long it takes to get this last wicket so long as we don't concede too many runs.

Jeez, Potts looks awfully gentle for the morning of day 2.

Nah, I was thinking today about why Southee has been so ineffective in the past 12 months, and I think a big part of it is to do with the 3/4 ball. That ball was so important to Southee as a bowler, as it not only brought lbw/bowled into play, it also made batsmen much more likely to push at the...

I don't feel like this is a bad first innings score at all, especially if Santner can slog another 20 or 30 runs tomorrow morning. The problem for NZ is they've only got two bowlers likely to be of any use on this deck tomorrow, so if England make it through the first session only 2 or 3 down NZ...
