    It's an odd question. Like asking if you had to pick Finn Allen to open would you play an extra batsman to bolster the batting. But yes, I concede you need at least 3 wicket taking seamers at Hagley, so if you're going in with Southee you need 3 others. I also concede that if all NZ bowlers...

    I'd normally agree but against England I think Santner's ODI bowling style is going to produce some chances. And yeah, talking about the the XI I'd select not what Stead would countenance, and I just think he brings more to the side than Southee.

    Yeah, I would've picked him in all three tests tbh for exactly that reason (and because you often need a spinner to bowl into the wind at the Basin). An 8, 9, 10 of Santner, Smith and Henry is a pretty ridiculous tail as well.
