    NZ domestic season 2023/24

From the squad announcement: "All-rounder Cam Paul, who was in the squad that qualified in Darwin and had already featured for Canterbury in the Ford Trophy, was ruled out with a dislocated shoulder."

Another name from that great 80's era passes. I remember he almost got Wellington home in that classic Shell Cup final where Larsen batted one-handed. RIP.

A shame McKenzie isn't playing although good for Akl to have Chapman and Neesham available. Apparently Neesham's first game for Auckland since 2010/11 before he headed to Otago then Wellington. Update: and he has celebrated his return by absolutely smoking the Wellington bowling.

18 months ago I might have even had Conway number 1 as Kane seemed to be struggling after missing the home summer with his elbow problem. Agree he would be behind Mitchell now.

Otago continuing their excellent week getting up against Wellington even without many from Bogue. Big hundred from Zac Cumming.

Guessing he's injured? He played the first game batting first drop but didn't bowl. https://scoring.nzc.nz/?tab=m_scorecard#mced8c0c5-e6a6-4081-8f22-e78f489e3723

Vettori's hair is going pretty well too, must be a left arm spinner thing.

Cool to see that guy with the Happy Birthday Phillips sign. And he gets the breakthrough. Bat him above Nicholls too please.

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

That is fantastic for a 15 yr old. Otago under 19's seem to be doing pretty well in this tournament. ND and CD less so. The Auckland opener Nelson got another ton today too. Youngest player I can recall debuting in domestic cricket was Corey Anderson at 16.

Yeah, as he says, if Nicholls played all his games at Hagley and the Basin he might be an ATG. Comparison with the averages of Fulton, Rutherford, Raval & Young in the 10 or so innings before they got axed is also interesting.

Andrew Voerman is probably the cricket journalist NZ has produced in terms of digging into the stats. The comments section on that piece is surprisingly good too.

I think Shane Warne started the cheese cutter revival (maybe inspired by Peeky Blinders?) and McMillan started doing the same not long after. I'm guessing Ian Smith wasn't asked either. I enjoyed his commentary in the WC and in the Australia v SA tests last season, having grown a bit tired of...

Paul's dismissal of Schmulian today looks pretty good too. Not sure if he just surprised him for pace.

Jamal Todd with a quick fire ton for Otago A making a good case for promotion to their Ford Trophy side. Not sure what happened to ND A in reply, bundled out for 76. https://scoring.nzc.nz/#mc7ec9e59-1f26-4cc2-8278-04885b08a951
