    English Domestic Season 2024

Do Yorkshire still have Dom Bess on their books? Going to be interesting to see which of Bess and Moriarty gets a go in the Championship if so.

    English Domestic Season 2024

It's interesting that although Australian cricket has a reputation for aggressive batting and fast run scoring, run rates in this year's Shield have been funereal for the most part. Maybe domestic cricket in general just gets worse pitches than Test cricket and makes Bazball harder?

England players and selection discussion thread

Jeez that's horrific. Willey has always been dicked around by the selectors though. They always played him as a bowler who could bat a bit when he had the potential to be a real all-rounder.

I don't get the obsession with Livingstone either, especially in 50 over cricket. Has he ever performed?

Nah. Pietersen was a bellend and poisoned the well.

    England Test Team

I feel quite positive about our batting stocks, we have the likes of Rew, Hain, Bohannon, Haines, Jamie Smith all waiting in the wings. Foakes has shown himself to be a Test standard player and should be persevered with. Not so sure about pace bowling. The selectors made some strange choices on...

    Inswing vs outswing

Not sure I can think of too many great bowlers who are capable of both, unless you count reverse swing. Dale Steyn never managed to perfect the inswinger. Most of the West Indian greats weren't swing bowlers at all. Neither was Glen McGrath. Jimmy Anderson swings it both ways, I guess Wasim...

Which England WC campaign was worse, 2015 or 2023?

It's going to get a whole lot worse when Adil Rashid retires.

What is the best ball to take a wicket from a non regular bowler?

This wasn't too shabby a ball on a flat track:

    English Domestic Season 2023

Shoaib Bashir has been selected for the Lions on a grand total of six first-class games where he averages 67 with the ball. And why have the selectors abandoned Matt Parkinson in favour of Callum?

    English Domestic Season 2023

Slightly odd signing IMO, is he expected to play red ball cricket or just limited overs? Maybe they wanted another wrinkled and gnarly vastly experienced seamer now that Jack Brooks has retired (I think).

Ponting vs Dravid, who was better against lateral movement and spin?

Ponting played one of the best innings against the moving ball I've ever seen in his stint at (I think?) Somerset. It was in a televised one-day game on a complete green top. No-one else could stay in, Ponting scored 80-odd not out and single-handedly brought home a low-scoring run chase.

    Bowling speeds

They've had speed guns on the live streams for some County Championship games this season. They are typically at least 5mph down on the speeds that the same bowlers supposedly reach in Tests and other televised matches.

    English Domestic Season 2023

But why would your team of the year leave out Bohannon? And why Cook ahead of Porter, or Worrall ahead of Lawes?

    English Domestic Season 2023

Surrey's go-slow in this match is surprising and disappointing IMO. They have an entire middle order full of exciting attacking batters, you'd hope they would have tried to get some bonus points and win the championship that way instead of plodding to a bore draw.
