*Official* Fourth Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) 19-23 July

Never mind Anderson, are we witnessing the end of Hazlewood's Test career?

    Cummins barely clocking 80mph here.

Some shocking LBW decisions in county games this morning. Two from Mir Hamza at Edgbaston obviously missing leg stump. Tom Westley looked like he hit the cover off it, and Alastair Cook given out to one clearly pitching outside leg.

I don't think it's ever safe to assume the ball is settled in Bairstow's gloves.

Ball looks absolutely mashed given that it's only 15 overs old.

How many does Mo have to get to make the gamble of putting him #3 worthwhile? I'd say we're pretty close already.

Haider Ali's stumping in the Derby/Durham match ranks as one of the dozier pieces of cricket I've seen. Surely should be classed as a run out though?

How are the Aus fans feeling about having no spinner atm?

That's just how he bats though, he gets right across to the off side and treats anything on the stumps as a leg side delivery to be glanced or flicked through midwicket. So if he does miss it he's in trouble.

That ball to get Came was a jaffa. Meanwhile Hampshire's search for an opening partnership that can last beyond the first over goes on. Currently 0 for 2 after 4.

Don't understand why Stokes took Anderson off, he was bowling superbly.

... who then got no runs, took no wickets, and we had to rely on a miracle from Pietersen.

Does seem like Aus are stacking the batting so as to make not losing the prime objective. Is there any example in Test history of that actually working? The few times I can remember England doing it it's always backfired.

Why are England so much better at producing all rounders than Australia?

His Test stats aren't great but Craig White could bowl 145k. Always thought he would go on to be a real force in Test cricket, I guess injuries put paid to that.

I wonder what's behind Vilas' terrible form this year. He's been a huge asset to Lancs for many previous seasons.

So in place of a spinner who Cummins clearly doesn't trust with the ball, they're picking two pace-bowling all-rounders who Cummins clearly doesn't trust with the ball?

Pretty sure Jake Ball is not a first choice for them in four-day cricket, so the fact that he's been playing in the CC would suggest they're short. Stone has predictably been injured. Fletcher has been out most of the season too. Hutton has done well but is not exactly lightning pace. Not sure...

Didn't take a wicket in the Somerset innings. James Vince did. Hmmm.

    English Domestic Season 2023

Lancs have just lost four wickets for two runs in the space of three overs. Essex's total looking pretty decent by now.

As a Northants follower I could wish Whiteman had done well enough this summer to be in contention, but he's currently averaging 30 with one hundred and one fifty to his name.
