*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Yeah a friend who lives near the Basin messaged an hour ago saying it was raining. Bowl first will be the option presumably.

I forgot how Wagner gave Smith problems on that 2019/20 tour. Dismissed him 4 times in the first two tests. Overall average against Smith was 16, the lowest of any bowler who has got Smith out 3 times or more in tests. No wonder Aus media was interested in that rematch...

Voerman is probably my favourite NZ cricket reporter at the moment - always digs up helpful stats to illustrate his point.

Does anyone wish, odi cricket was back?

The old World Series Cricket tri-series was so good. At its best those games had a level of drama and suspense that was hard to beat. Everything is so compressed in T20. That said, I'm not sure you could get the same crowds that generated the atmosphere for those games now.

That's right, also Dougeh had done so well in 2011 so they went with him too.

Bowled an 11 over spell with two broken toes on day 5 of the test against Pakistan. Won with 27 balls to spare. If that had been a draw I don't think we would have made the WTC final...

Yeah, that was the tour with the D/N game I was referring to where he likely would have made a big difference. They eventually picked him in the last test of the summer at Hagley Oval. Got Smith out with the short ball.

Wagner v Wade. Shortball masterclass v Smith.

First saw Wagner in a list A final where he was bowling and Ian Smith was asking in the comm box when he would qualify for NZ. He looked handy but I didn't guess he become one of our all time greats. His passion and sheer grit makes you want to see him do well and has no doubt helped lift the...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Matt Rowe who did well at the under 19 WC turning out for CD A. Lellman is 64 not out for ND A. I'm hoping Bettelheim gets runs and gets a CD debut in the Plunket Shield.

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

Good article on O'Rourke. Brendon Donkers seems to have played an important role at Canterbury tweaking his action. I didn't realise he was also coach of the NZA side that toured Australia last year. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350186806/newborn-giraffe-budding-black-caps-star-rise-will-orourke

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Friday seems to already be sold out again. High volume of cricket and an aging side. Could be worse. We had a guy on Saturday who pulled a hamstring approaching the crease on his hat-trick delivery.

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Bracewell on radio comms was talking about how much practice he felt he had to do to field in the slips as he didn't have the same ability as someone like Coney. Had bruised hands all the time. Also, some old school training with Artie Dick in Otago at the start of the season diving to catch the...

*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

That's a shame, would probably have been another bumper crowd too. Was at a quiz last night at our club and someone mentioned how even though we got thrashed on Friday it was so good to see the Black Caps with 3 guys bowling over 140 kph. That seemed like a bit of a breakthrough performance for...

That 'rotation' of older players was something the High Performance Manager at the time Ric Charlesworth really pushed too. Just looking him up again I saw this 2021 interview with ex-Canterbury coach Dave Nosworthy who attributes some of NZ's recent success to work Charlesworth did...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

Interesting discussion with Rutherford and McMillan in the comm box on Foulkes and O'Rourke. Rutherford saying Foulkes isn't particularly quick but has a very good bouncer and swings it in. McMillan asked if he was one of the hardest bowlers he'd faced recently and Rutherford said he actually...

    NZ domestic season 2023/24

A long time since it was televised on TVNZ. Used to love it when the old Shell Cup semis and final were on in TV1 in the 90's before Sky. Was a rare chance to see domestic cricket on TV. Great crowds too, the Shell Cup final used to fill Lancaster Park.
