Waugh played in a team of superstars. What would you say is Borders best advantage over Waugh?
Border took over the reigns and made them world champions.

On what planet? Cricket not popular in India before he came along? Come on. Great player, but failed as a leader at a time when India's batting line up was world class but repeatedly failed away from home under him. You can't even argue India was on the way up under his leadership when he pulled the pin or anything like that. In his last few years it felt as though everything revolved around what he wanted or didn't want in that side. I don't think it's a coincidence they got almost instantly better when he left.Yeah, I actually agree. But for World cricket it's Tendulkar.
Important to maybe India or Asia but that's it.Yeah, I actually agree. But for World cricket it's Tendulkar.
Me too. Safraz was important for pioneering reverse swing, ditto Imran. Sir Gary needs no introduction. Lillee was the modern architect of fast bowling etc.I'm just wondering how and why his name even came up.
Magic and Bird saved the league though.NBA was popular even before Jordan but he was the first superstar and he took the game to insane levels of popularity, endorsements, money. A big reason why they became insanely popular was because America changed tremendously under President Ronald Reagan. 1990s was a very important decade for India economically. Like Michael, Sachin Tendulkar was the right person at the right place and at right time.
Kerry Packer and Jagmohan Dalmiya had a bigger impact on the game than any cricketer in the last 50 years.
Yeah Jordan stood on their shoulders. In a good way.Magic and Bird saved the league though.
When they first played the finals were tape delayed, they changed all of that.
Magic vs(and) Bird took it from 1x to 10xMagic and Bird saved the league though.
Tendulkars importance was his contributing factor to the rise of India as a global market for cricket connected with his unique super stardom. He was the talisman figure of sorts in the 90s. In fact, I would almost say he WAS Indian cricket at the time.Yeah, I actually agree. But for World cricket it's Tendulkar.
In terms of influence in the field it will be Imran, then Border, followed by Lloyd.Tendulkars importance was his contributing factor to the rise of India as a global market for cricket connected with his unique super stardom. However, I think in terms of sheer influence on the field, there have been more.
Border lay the foundation for what would be arguably the greatest team of all time. Lloyd built what was at the point the greatest team of all time, how was Imran's greater? In terms of influence in the field it will be Imran, then Border, followed by Lloyd.
Um let's see:Border lay the foundation for what would be arguably the greatest team of all time. Lloyd built what was at the point the greatest team of all time, how was Imran's greater?
Already practicing for a career in politics huhUm let's see:
- Unifying the most divisive team in cricket
- Taking a mid low tier team and taking it to the top tier to the point it can challenge WI for the top spot with far fewer resources than Lloyd
- Handpicking and grooming a next gen of cricket legends of Waqar and Inzi and others. They wouldn't have careers without Imran. Far more involved in that process than any other captain.
- Other aspects of influence include reverse swing and neutral umpires
You can argue others are better captain but Imran had more influence relative to the challenge of the team
Poor guys in jail, let's give him a breakAlready practicing for a career in politics huh
he's from SC.. it makes him better. I think he's behind ranatunga when it comes to unifying the team to get the best out of them and put them on the map.Border lay the foundation for what would be arguably the greatest team of all time.
