The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

That's only for Grace and Hobbs (and Trumper).
Btw That's arguably true for Richards as well yk?? He arguably was behind Chappell and Bpycott in the 70s (16th highest scorer that decade) and behind a bunch like Border, Miandad, Crowe, etc. in the 80s as well. So how come he's better than Trumper, the best batsman of the 1910s????
Richards was seen as the best batsman in the world from 76 util at least 86, but by most accounts, 88.

I don't get your point.

Agree. But

If Boycott has made runs against Lillee as well as Thomson (he has a terrible record against Hughes though)
And Gavaskar has a good record against Thomson, Hughes and McDermott,

Whom should I rate higher?
And not even peak Thompson.

No one took advantage of WSC like him, and again '71.

I would say that either both Gavaskar and Hutton should be in that BAB group or neither. I personally don't have either one in it.
Let me hear the argument that Gavaskar is the greatest batsman after Bradman.

When was he the best in the world, or even undisputedly 2nd best for any significant period. Though that in itself scuttles the argument significantly.

@Johan consistently makes a case for Hutton.

Why? Gooch has what Boycott is criticized for (lack of quick scoring) and their run output is very close. I think Boycott is better but there's no reason to think the gap is huge.
I suppose you’ll be claiming Atherton was a better opener than Anwar too?
