The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Srinath P

School Boy/Girl Captain
Gavaskar played Lillee in 1 series only. Hogg and Alderman are nothing special, there is not much reason to rate runs against them but not Thomson, Reid, McDermott and Hughes.
Agree. But

If Boycott has made runs against Lillee as well as Thomson (he has a terrible record against Hughes though)
And Gavaskar has a good record against Thomson, Hughes and McDermott,

Whom should I rate higher?

Gavaskar was one of the best batsman of the 70s-80s. Hutton came just after Bradman and before guys like Sobers and Richards, a big reason for him being in the BAB convo for in many people's eyes.
I have Hutton over Gavaskar too but suggesting that they're not close or in seperate tiers is disrespectful to Gavaskar.

Ok.

Do you see Gavaskar as legitimately in the conversation for best after Bradman?

What is the argument you would use?

Have you ever heard anyone make said argument, or even suggest it?

I would say that either both Gavaskar and Hutton should be in that BAB group or neither. I personally don't have either one in it.
