Not sure about that. Have all 4 of them in the same tier with Punter>Chappell>Kallis>Sanga for meChappell is better than all of them.

Similar issue like Lillee.Chappell is better than all of them.
Sobers SR is listed at 52-53 by Davis.50-60 probably? In his final England series he batted with 51 SR, in 1969 it was also 50, in 1966 England it was 59 but it was the best series of his life, in 1963 England it was 45.
tbh I think Viv is better simply because he's better in both big countries they can tour, England and Australia.Viv easily faced better competition.
I have few issues with Sobers :
1. Playing a higher proportion of matches against Tier B teams but not exactly minnows.
2. That record against NZ. 12 Tests is a significant sample size as well.
@subshakerz don't come back when Root makes tons in Australia later this year, don't come back when he retires with a 50+ average, don't come back when he breaks THE record. Stay on that side.Root>Ponting
Hammond/Gavaskar/Sutcliffe/Headley all ahead of those in a tier too.Not sure about that. Have all 4 of them in the same tier with Punter>Chappell>Kallis>Sanga for me
If he does all that, then we can talk.@subshakerz don't come back when Root makes tons in Australia later this year, don't come back when he retires with a 50+ average, don't come back when he breaks THE record. Stay on that side.
the conversation at that point would not be PontingIf he does all that, then we can talk.
feel like maybe Hammond and Headley are ahead of Sunny and Sutcliffe are by a distinct margin.Hammond/Gavaskar/Sutcliffe/Headley all ahead of those in a tier too.
Kallis for me is behind the tier of Border/Waugh/Sanga.
Maybe.feel like maybe Hammond and Headley are ahead of Sunny and Sutcliffe are by a distinct margin.
He did play in West Indies in WSC, averaged...58 I think?Similar issue like Lillee.
Played 78 out of 87 Tests in Aus, Eng & NZ.
Just 3 Tests in Pak & 1 Test in SL. None in Ind.
for me, personallyMaybe.
Here is what I think are the tiers:
Bradman
Sachin/Hobbs/Viv/Sobers
Smith/Hutton/Lara
Hammond/Headley/Gavaskar/Sutcliffe
Chappell/Pollock/Punter
Border/Waugh/Sanga/Kallis
Hopefully more come to push Kallis out of the top 20.
actually, Chappel in WSC in West IndiesHe did play in West Indies in WSC, averaged...58 I think?
Yeah but I have ranked him the same as you, 18th.wow you really don't like Jack lol
This paints the picture of an invaluable bowler who just didn't show up and clean up the tail. Taking on set partnerships and never with the new ball.I often hear people talking about percentages of wickets by batting position. Kallis did most of his work in the middle order, i.e where the best bats play, having a higher percentage of wickets there than any “ATG” bowler. In fact he has a lower percentage of tail wickets than the vast majority of ATG bowlers (excluding McGrath, Marshall and Donald - lowest to highest). He wasn’t filling up his boots with cheap wickets. He was doing the hard yards, dismissing the best batsmen in the opposing team.
What a man.
Dude stop talking about Kallis in this thread. This paints the picture of an invaluable bowler who just didn't show up and clean up the tail. Taking on set partnerships and never with the new ball.
What more can you ask?
Hutton should go upBradman
