Reminder

Hutton averages 5 points higher than Sobers away from home, while their home conditions are as different as two pitches can be, literally landmines vs roads.

while being an opener.

So a fair advantage over Hutton even if we give openers credit to be slower.
True, but Hutton would cancel that advantage out due to the opener tax imo, opening in England is a far harder job than playing 4-5 on 50s/60s Windies wickets which were generally flat.

Viv over Sobers makes sense imo, tougher pitches, better opposition and genuinely better away from home.
Sachin. Viv. Sobers. Smith.
I have them on the same tier.
I usually have Sachin as first.
Viv has no weakness.
Sobers has longevity.
Smith seems to have no weakness in his record for now.

I would have rated Hutton higher but compared to the others he faced less ATG bowlers though he played in tougher conditions

don't really think Smith has performed against more ATGs than Hutton tbh

Viv easily faced better competition.

I have few issues with Sobers :
1. Playing a higher proportion of matches against Tier B teams but not exactly minnows.
2. That record against NZ. 12 Tests is a significant sample size as well.
