mfs would whine about Root and Dravid's away record and then give Lara a free pass smh

1. Flamboyant batting style
2. Numerous double centuries, 375 & 400
3. WI failing and him playing a lone wolf

That’s why fans are more lenient on him compared to other great batsmen who have flaws in his record

I mean he doesn't average 50 + in any host countries (top teams) except sl , Root has way better record than this.
When you split records into country by country, averages don’t mean much. What matters is making big scores and having big series.

Scoring a couple of big hundreds with nothing else is much better than just scoring a bunch of fifties with no hundred.

winning games is all that matters yeah, series is whatever, you can make 70 runs in each inning 6 times and you'd average 70, isn't a big series unless it wins you a game.

tbh the Lara lone wolf narrative is stupid, in the 2000s he had Gayle/Hooper/Chanders, all top class batters, agreed on other two.

When was that? Because Ponting played Shoaib more comfortably than any other batter I saw.

Lara...
Well, if we are stooping down to the levels of cherry-picking specific instances of batsmen getting hit/injured by fast bowlers just to prove a point, that can be done for any batsman (including the best of the best). Here goes...

Wasim Akram to Tendulkar in 1994

Shoaib Akhtar to Ponting:

Kenmar Roach to Ponting:

Mohammed Shami to Ponting:

Umesh Yadav to Ponting:

One thing many don't says, Lara was once averaging 60+ in 90s but by the end of 90s his career average drops to 50 (even lower)
He maintained marnus lebuschagne level consistency.
