there have been plenty of test only bowlers and bowlers who predominantly played tests who have had shorter careers and achieved less, if it was that easy then we would have more Anderson like bowlers out there

at this point you’re refusing to acknowledge what is being said and going lalalalala as usual to keep the drama going on like a troll
Bro ffs. I never said that was the only reason why he's kept playing and that he's not special. You're the one inferring things I never said to trigger yourself

Only 11 can be on the field at any time and even then he doesn't get into the squad in my opinion. Sorry. He just falls short.
Nah, for me this isn't an 11 playing a game (who are they going to play against?), it's just whether someone is great or not - Anderson clearly is.

Does anyone know what his hottest streak is, e.g. did he play 50 or more tests where his average was in the Hadlee, McGrath, Ambrose type range? What is his greatest run at an average or 22 or below say?

The last 8 years of his career he played 76 Tests and took 275 wickets at 22.28. This is not dissimilar figures to the entire career of Cummins (294 wickets @ 22.43).

If he hadn’t played Australia in that period his average would’ve been 20.6!

He’s certainly an ATG for anyone aged over 30.

Thanks, definitely comparable with Rabada and Cummins, and all three are a smidge below Bumrah (who imo is the only potential ATG here, the other three are the next tier down).

I would guess roughly this was his best streak of 50+ matches (Jul 2015-Feb 2021)

52 matches 205 @ 20.07 SR 50.7 13 5’fers 1 10’fer

Home vs Away during this period ftr

27 matches 125 @ 16.68 SR 41.2 9 5’fers 1 10’fer

25 matches 80 @ 25.36 SR 65.7 4 5’fers
