Marshall during his peak was taking a seriously insane bowling load.

He bowled over 200 overs in series in India 83, Aus 84 and Eng 88 and regularly bowled over 150 overs a series in his peak. That's a lot of toughness for an express pacer.

Bumrah has never cracked 200, barely does 150. He did 187 but that was in Eng 2021 when the 5th test was six months later. He is seriously pushing himself this series and hasn't cracked 150 overs yet and seems spent.

I think this is one measure Marshall outstrips Bumrah. Bumrah would have broken down with Marshalls load.

The only black mark on Bumrah’s career is that he’s missed quite a few games. I value availability really highly and Bumrah’s only had effectively like a 4 year career so far. I think he needs another 4-5 years before being compared to Marshall/Steyn/Imran etc

Batting strike rates are going up so bowlers don’t have to bowl as much anymore

I mean, one could argue that Bumrah doesn't need to bowl that much, batting lineup is gonna collapse before that anyway.

That argument should work for Marshall. He had high quality support and great batting but still took a lead role with a lot of overs for an express pacer.

However Bumrah doesn't need to bowl as much at home. But he simply is not physically capable of taking that load that Marshall did in his peak.

Serous question.

How many wickets did Bumrah get this series that he wouldn't have got if he had stronger support.

And it's not impacting his average becuse they have been clueless against him.

He came back to clean up the tail in each of the last two innings.
On the 4th day of the MCG test, Bumrah literally said that he can't push anymore when Rohit kept turning to him again and again. How do you think that impacts his record?

That's weak. You wouldn't see Lillee do that.

I don't think that's the flex you think it is tbh.

Bumrah bowls 11.2% of his team's over while Marshall bowled 11.7%. Games have just been shorter and/or India has had fewer chances to bowl in 2 full innings in a test

People always say that guys are fitter and stronger, but the guys from previous eras bowled much longer spells and didn't look like Bumrah did afterwards.
