So obviously assuming we lose this series 3-1 (and really the decent thing we can do is to draw this test and let SL make the final if they beat Aus 2-0), how is the reset gonna look like?

For me, the best available option is to take away the all format captaincy from one MI guy and hand it over to 3 different MI guys.

Tests - Rohit -> Bumrah
ODIs - Rohit -> Hardik
T20Is - Rohit -> SKY (already done tbf)

I also think RoKO both wont play for India in any format. Then maybe something like this -

Well, tbf, I should have clarified those were our best potential 11s but I totally understand resting most of the test players for JAMLO series all the time.

Pretty sure the likes of Rahul and Iyer will still be in the reckoning for ODI's. Putting Rinku ahead of Rahul and/or Iyer seems pretty bold imo

According to hindustan times rohit is set to be out of test cricket and virat too is in line after sydney test would finnally open chances to youngstars. We might lose some games but atleast have excuse of young team

Surely we can turn some of these guys into test standard players?

I would keep Jaiswal, Axar, Kuldeep, Pant, Siraj, Sundar, Reddy and Sarfraz as the core of the side for the next WTC cycle, and hold on to Bumrah and Lokesh for as long as we can. Gill should be axed and earn his way back through weight of runs in red ball cricket. Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja retired.

Tanush Kotian is an interesting one. Called up for this series but hasn't played, should perhaps get a Test series at some point so we can see what he can do. But given we already have Kuldeep, Axar and Sundar jawing for that spinner's role it could be tough.

Not trolling here, but I do think India could lose 5-0 in England if Bumrah isn't their.

Their is just nothing I like about any likely line up...

Jaiswal is good, but a first tour of England is always tough, Rahul will have one or two good knocks but will ultimately have a poor series because that's what he does.

I don't know if they have the guts to drop Gill and if they do it will be for some IPL blaster rather than someone like Sai which won't end well.

Kohli may hang on when he really shouldn't. Washy and Reddy will be smashed in England and probably won't score a run.

Bowling wise, even if Bumrah has avoided a horror injury , he will be rushed back for the IPL and won't be able for 5 tests in England.

Shami hopefully has one final hurrah in England because he is so needed, but after that , who are the bowlers that can take wickets in England?

Fast Bowlers - Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Yash Dayal

Spinners - Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav

Now, obviously the first thing that jumps out is that all of our spinners bar Kuldeep are basically allrounders. But in SENA conditions especially now that Ashwin has retired, we will need Kuldeep to be a factor. This just means when we go to England we have to try to bat a 5-9 of Pant, NKR, Jaddu/Washy, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav.

This means the selectors have to plan ahead, get these guys enough bowling to get used to test match workloads and maybe even find county deals for most of them, even Pant if possible. The IPL ends in May. The England tests start in July. The 100 usually happens in August if I am not wrong. This gives us the county games in June and July to get this lot prepared. If Bumrah is not fit, Siraj, Arshdeep and Harshit should be our main seam attack with NKR for support. Kuldeep as our main spinner with Jaddu/Washy for support. This just leaves the top 4 to sort itself out. I still think Gill can go well as he showed he can learn and adapt in that England series at home. But again, it has to be a form and evidence based call if he is selected. Personally, I would go -

Gill/Gaekwad
Pant (wk) (c)
NKR
Washy
Harshit
Kuldeep
Arshdeep

as our bowling attack. Siraj tried hard here but its obvious he is not leadership material with the ball. Prasidh has attributes but also bowls too many 4 balls and his height may not be a point of difference on the softer wickets in England. Obviously if Bumrah is fit he plays ahead of Akash. Maybe Akash can still play ahead of Harshit if he is more impressive in those conditions.
