Best Players of Spin

An avg of 54 in India suggests he probably was as good as most of our heroes. Just didn't play the sheer quantity of games. I'd give an arm (but not quite a leg) to have a Sidhu in the side even in this drastically different era.
Yeah, that sounds fair now that I think about it. For the matter of fact, I rate Sidhu pretty well, probably even ahead of Gambhir. But still don't think he really should be compared with the likes of Sachin, Sehwag and Lara vs spin for taking Warner to cleaners once and doing good against pretty doosra Murali. Just don't have the volume required. Regarding current India, I would absolutely lash on to any great player of spin to add to this side.

Whatever is the opinion on Lara vs Sehwag, Lara is surely better than Sidhu vs spin, if not for anything but his 2001 domination of peak Murali.
Lara was done and dusted by Venky Raju of all spinners. Saqlain and Kumble was never dominated by him. Sidhu dominated every spinner that ever bowled to him.

Such a bad take. Lara had Ali-level footwork against spin. He would actually side-step and skip out as opposed to just down the wicket to spin, simultaneously manufacturing room and altering the length of the delivery. Also why does Sidhu get to stay Sidhu when Kohli becomes Kholi, Sehwag becomes Shewag, and Gandhi becomes Ghandi?
Sidhu dominated every spinner bowled to him. Lara was done by Raju and didn't dominate Kumble and Saqlain. That is good enough evidence for me.

This is true , the only spinners that got Sidhu out more than once was Warne ,Murali and Hooper in Test cricket and he scored big against those spinners , considering the fact he played 51 tests and mostly in subcontinent that's incredible. An underrated legend of spin

I dont think he would have played many series against other teams and spinners, tbf.

Sidhu was fine against spin. And not getting out to opposition spinners was a thing almost all of our batsmen did.

Of his contemporaries, I would rate Azhar as a better player of spin than Sidhu ever was. Forget the ATGs comparison.

I remember Lara in WI in 2003 against Murali when fresh in the crease in the 2nd test having a horrible time, being constantly beaten and almost trapped LBW. He generally couldn't read Murali from the get go and conquered him after getting settled in, whereas Sehwag and Sidhu were comfy launching them for six in their first over. Lara was a great player of spin but not bullet proof.
