That batsmanship yesterday was nothing but pathetic. Same old problems when faced with something different our batsman are clearly not good enough to adapt.
Can't say I expected much from Smith or Reeza. I'd like to hope our Test batsman (Markram, Stubbs and Verreynne) would be able to adapt. Also Mulder should be above Smith in this lineup.

Agreed mate. Smith isn't exactly the greatest vs spin. He had no chance re: unorthodox with what sounds like poor analytic preparation for Ghazanfar.

It's frustrating Mulder has taken so long to show hints of being an international cricketer but he may just be doing it now.

Still miffed about the Bedingham non selection in the 50 over stuff ..That was an easy decision and Walter failed to make it happen.
Only saving grace is that the ODI squads were picked before his 188. At least he should be in the picture moving forward. But my concern is thinking all of Bavuma, Hendricks, Rassie and de Zorzi can be in our ODI squads.

Plus before the Champs Trophy, we only have a triangular in Pakistan after these ODI's.

Agreed. We are really going to miss QDK. I feel like they want de Zorzi at the top but then who is the keeper? They dearly want it to be Rickelton but out of him and Verreynne I'd go with Verreynne. I think he has a deceptively quick way of scoring and you need that in ODIs without going for sixes.

I just doesn't see Verreynne taking down an attack and accelerating from the middle order. I think we have to lean towards Rickelton in white ball and Verreynne in tests for now.

I honestly think we just need to back our most adaptable young batsmen against pace and spin in all conditions. That to me is Stubbs, Breetzke and Brevis. They need to be playing with your Bavuma's, Rassie's, Markram's, Klaasen's, Miller's. DeZorzi has started his career well as well so he stays in the mix.

Then we cannot go into the Champs Trophy with Bavuma, De Zorzi, Rassie at the top. There needs to be a like for like in style to QdK at the top whether that is Bedingham or Rickelton.

I watched most of the game yesterday having missed the first one. Verreynne seems very eager to score but it just clicked to me that he hasn't really played much subcontinental cricket? I dont know if his technique will hold up to be honest. I also forgot that Klaasen is still around. Maybe give him the gloves for the champions trophy and you do QDK --> Bedingham at the top. I like de Zorzi but I think he has the capability of getting stuck and we already have Rassie at 3.

We have harped on about this but our best limited overs players of yesteryear were also good/great FC batsman. QdK, Hash,AB, heck even Gibbs. Guys like Klaasen and Rassie didn't set the Test arena on fire but they have good FC records. Miller obviously the exception but I think he could have improved that record if he didn't decide to go whiteball only. What do we expect from players like Reeza,Smith etc when they average mid to low 30s in FC. In ODIs you have to be able to navigate tough periods more so than T20s and some of these techniques aren't up to it.

Brevis may have put his development on hold by going T20/T10 so early, but if he fixes his short ball game I do think he has a way higher ceiling than some of the other players we have been trying.

I feel like we were both typing our posts at the same time because this is definitely a general feeling from the SA CWers!
