Frequent ball change made by England Team

Lol, love the Australia v England banter here that's the subcurrent of any issue involving these teams. I doubt even any Sri Lankan cares half as much about this. Never change lads.

If I recall, D.K. Lillee pioneered that.

If there aren't enough suitable old balls to replace a damaged ball, perhaps the umpires could rough up a newer ball (dare I suggest sandpaper?) until it more closely resembles the damaged ball. When I was playing we had a badly damaged ball and requested a replacement. We produced several options and the umpire scuffed up one on the pitch until it matched the ball with the split seam. Both captains then approved of the replacement.
They should pause the game while a batch of balls are prepared in the nets.

The umpires are neutral not english and they decide to change the ball not england. the idea that this has only happened since bazball or stokes is captain is nonsense. I spose the ICC could ban both sides from asking the umps to change the ball and instead make it their duty to check it goes through their ring b4 every over starts.

I don't think we can let England off the hook here given they also pioneered running off the field every 15 minutes for a shower (oh, the irony!), and Murray Mint use. There are a litany of other abuses too. The list is much too long to add here, but we all know what I am talking about.
It started with WG Grace and was continued by the likes of Douglas Jardine before your more recent examples.

Right, but this isn’t cheating is it, again this is on the umpire.

As it happens I was umpiring a game a few weeks ago where we’d lost a couple of balls so had to use a new rock about 30 overs in. The left arm spinner bowling at the time was fuming.
He must have a **** captain if he was still bowling after losing a ball in the first place. He should have been hooked, like all finger spinners and sent off the park to go and find it, no matter how long it took him.

Why did you give them a new ball, anyway? You mean to tell me that two teams of cricket nuffies rocked up to their village game and none of them have an old ball in their kit? Come on. If they wanted the ball replaced with an old one, I have a sneaking suspicion they'd have found one.

As for these instances at the top level which seem to only happen in England to England when they're bowling, it beggars belief in this day and age there aren't boxes carried around which contain several balls of any given age - 0-10 overs old, 10-20, 20-30 etc etc. It's amateur hour in terms of organisation and officiating. If the ball needs replacing, that's fine. But if there isn't one of commensurate age and damage to it, then play on with the **** one, I'm afraid. It rewards a bowling side for getting pasted around the park.

I’m less talking about a ball going out of shape, because that’s not getting checked in the Cheshire 2nd XI 2nd division and more the seam bursting apart tbf
Poor British workmanship. This is why manufacturing went off shore.

Whatever it takes!!!
Leaving aside the rhetoric, I think it is enough of an advantage for BMac to have now made it a bit of a team strategy for two different international teams. Which means ICC should look at the rules around this one and rework the playing conditions to stop this from happening.

There are plenty of rules brought in coz teams learnt to stretch the limits of old rules to gain advantages. This may just be the latest instance of such a thing.

I think you'll see a massive drop in international umpiring numbers if they have to have the ball pushed through their ring before the start of every over.

Well he can’t hook him in the middle of an over!!

I wouldn't say a massive drop, just a change in the demographic!!

PS Great to see the usual whingers out in force on this one. Good to see it still hurts!! Also, funny to see them bring up the Bairstow run out, something we've all moved on from months ago.

Far too sensible for this pom-con bitchfest.

I guess you need umpires to be on top of it though, and a better standard of ball. Otherwise you'll get every innings seeing a side lose early wickets then the middle order and tail being able to pile up runs.
