Read somewhere that this was your best ever medal haul??
Looking at raw numbers, sure. But I expect a lot better of our sportspeople tbh

it’s the acceptance of “we did our best” instead of expecting to beat everyone at everything which leads to athletic mediocrity.

it’s time for a shake up at the top of the Aus Olympic Committee

Will we get another jetpack man extravaganza? It would be great to show how far technology has come over 40 years. Would be extra great if the dude's iron man suit AI takes over and starts randomly pewpewing spectators at the opening.

In all seriousness the Australian team completely and utterly repudiating this mindset is why they succeeded here whereas the "win at all costs, Winning Edge" teams failed comprehensively at London and Rio.

Kiwis ended up doing pretty damn good too. 10 gold medals is that the most they’ve had for a while? Shame we lost out to Japan.

Hard to sum up GB's overall performance. If you'd said that only USA and China would win more medals, you'd think that would be a superb performance. But when only 21% of those are Gold, it looks a bit different. Some were unlucky, not much you can do if you produce a personal best and someone goes better. Others simply blew winning positions.

Keeley Hodgkinson will be lauded as the GB Queen of the games and looks a shoe in for SPOTY. Pidcock's performance the most astonishing whilst the Rowers were the best team (which is somewhat of a concern given where most of these guys stem from).

It'll be interesting for NZ's Halberg Awards this year (similar to SPOTY). Carrington with 3 golds, Andrews with 2 golds, 1 silver, Kerr with an athletics Gold. Ko getting the completing the full set. Some pretty iconic moments for NZ sport there.

Proud of our effort of 10 golds, and incredible to think we arguably left a few out there with the Men's rugby 7s & Luuka Jones bombing despite being favourites & Maddi Wesche & Hayden Wilde getting pipped for Gold right at the death in the Shot Put & Triathlon.

Incredible to think NZ & Australia with a combined population of 30 million win 28 golds between them, just 12 less than joint winners USA & China.
