South Africa team selection

I must say that this is quite the endorsement for Brand. Conrad must hold him in high regard.
I'm not sure how many other options for captain there may have been. Brand also offers a spin option which may have helped his case.

Zondo or De Swart could play at 6.
I think De Swardt is the better option as he's definitely the better bat and we could do with the extra bowler. But even though the transformation numbers are measured over the entire season, De Zorzi not being there may open the door for Zondo...

Swanepoel's playing in the SA20, as is nearly every South African player you can think of who's not in that squad.

As I've stated before I am concerned about our ability to get 20 NZ wickets across both Tests but I don't know how much of a step down from Markram,Bavuma,Verreyne and de Zorzi these batsmen will be. I'm not including Elgar in this because he retired.

Yeoman

U19 Captain
This is incredibly sad and concerning
Undoubtedly. However some of this squad have decent first class records and Paterson and Bedingham have impressed in county cricket. From an English perspective, the only comparison I can think of was the team for the WI tour in 1990 and that went much better than might have been expected so you never know. Good luck to them.

A very well done to the imbeciles at CSA. Of course, organising an extra test against India would have been awful to their finances, I suppose.

The point is that you can make the profits without relying on a full-strength SA20. The extra test would what, be a week less of full-strength SA20 sides?
I don't agree with the weakened squad, but I don't think CSA have any other means of generating the money the SA20 does. And these franchise owners want the players they payed millions for to be available. CSA has no bargaining power here. It is their fault due to years of mismanagement though. They did try to move the NZ Tests. I'd love to know what Shukri Conrad thinks because he is a proud man who clearly loves Test cricket.

To be fair to CSA, I don't any of those in charge now were responsible for that mismanagement, so it's a bit of a case of trying to repair the damage that was done.

But even without the mismanagement, I think something like the SA20 may still have been necessary. CSA loses money in years which the big 3 don't tour South Africa, and they need an alternative to hoping to make up that loss when those tours do happen.
