One of these two get out quickly and it’s at least competitive. Though it’s probably the sort of Test where Australia get to a solid score and bowl Pakistan out for a weak one.

Think we may see some discussion in the media around marnus's spot in the team once warner's gone if Marnus doesn't get a score. Away series in England/India are as hard as it gets for a modern Aussie bat IMO, but he's averaging 34 since the start of the SA home series last home summer.

How come no Rizwan or renowned western suburbs second grader Haris Rauf?
Rauf wanted to play t20 stuff instead, didn't think he could maintain a test workload. Sarfaraz is prefered to Rizwan despite Sarfaraz being a subpar keeper cause Sarfaraz has made bulk runs recently and rizwan had a bit of a form slump during that period where NZ, ENG and AUS all toured pakistan last summer.

No Rizwan as he had a form slump (partly from batting too high) and Fatty was scoring runs domestically and did well in conditions ideal for him when picked.

Rauf turned down the tour. Probably sensible.

Smith looks like he's in typical 2/100 smith batting mode. He's gonna go ~30(35) then hit one straight to fine leg.

Not many people know this but ‘Ravi Shastri’ is actually a parody character being played by the real Ravi Shastri. He is affecting that deep aristocratic prideful voice (his real voice is much more high pitched) and has developed his trade-mark arrogant ‘Sam the Eagle’ persona mainly for comedic effect. It’s all a massive p*ss-take send-up of himself & any commentary know all’s that take themselves too seriously.

Well apparently you can average sub-30 for three years and still be picked so he's not under threat just yet. Must say if Smith continues to decline and Marnus does also slump we've got problems.

I hope Head sorts his weakness against the short ball out (granted, most bowlers are not as fast as Mark Wood). We could have some rocky times ahead with needing two new openers soon.

Could be grim. Think alot comes down to how long smith decides to play on for, honestly. Smith seems to do well when the top order are performing worse (this could be complete horseshit or inflated by that 2019 ashes, don't have the numbers), if he ****s off in a year's time at the same time as khawaja the batting lineup looks a bit grim, especially if carey or his replacement still can't make consistent runs and marnus is still not at his 2019 peak.
