Yeah, fair. But NZ‘s wins since England have come in games you’d expect them to win (which is not to underplay it as SA, Eng and Pak can all attest that it doesn’t always work out like that…) so just find the whole ‘lock for the semis’ line I keep hearing a bit skewed.

I think they will get there but it’s not inconceivable that they lose to Oz, SA and Pakistan. The latter perhaps less likely, but.
Think we'd be hoping to get one win from those 3 before the Lankan game, probably Pakistan now but who knows.

So weird how all the English posters are suddenly going on about how ODIs and World Cups are dying, which they weren't a week ago . . . so weird
I much prefer ODIs to T20s but the truth is that ODIs are struggling for any relevance outside of the WCs.

Most countries hardly play their top line ups in the bilateral series, resting in particular their test players. Let's be honest, as fans, as soon as a series is finished, it's gone from the memory bank.

T20s will remain because of the franchise leagues but the 50 over game has no equivalent to maintain interest between WCs.

I don't think ODIs are in any immediate danger but will the format exist in say 20 years - I'm not so sure.

If NZ can't beat Pakistan they don't deserve a SF spot. They beat them easily in the warm up and, if anything, Pakistan seems to have got worse since then. I'll stick my neck out and say NZ will beat Pak and SL, and will win one of the games against Aus and SA.

I don't know why people are saying Australia have an easy run home with THREE minnows. We have not played them yet and are spluttering hard. I can easily see us being done by Afghanistan as we can't score against spin. They could also easily lose to Netherlands with an inept performance where they try and smash them and find themselves all out quickly and I can't remember the last time they beat England in a ODI.

I think Afghanistan are favourites against Aus. If there is any turn in the wicket can you imagine the Aussie batsmen trying to handle 20 overs of Mujeeb + Rashid?

Is anyone that interested in T20is? I watch them, but they are not particularly interesting (even the WT20).
ODIs are definitely a superior version of cricket in comparison to T20Is, mainly because - ODIs already encompass all the skills and elements of T20, plus much more on top of that!

This ODI World Cup has been enjoyable to follow like the ones before. T20 World Cup is fun too but it's seriously a dumbed-down version of cricket. Having said that, ODI format needs some sort of annual multi-nation events to keep it interesting otherwise it will continue to decline

Australia is playing Afghanistan at Wankede Mumbai.

Thats why Aus will win and qualify.

It would be cool if Afghanistan find a way into the semis

Probably too many wins away against teams who absolutely must come hard to save their own skins, but it would be very fun.

we're going to crunch them, i expect, and might even make our way to the semis where we'll promptly get dispatched imho
this isn't as useless a team as they showed in the early games but i also think they're just lacking in team composition (and have too much stoinis) to really give it the shake against the elite teams
