WI is touring Australia again in early 2024 and it’s going to be a really tough sell after their last tour

I am lost for answers atm

They’re not good enough to be playing international cricket atm but ignoring them won’t help the situation

Agreed, last thing cricket needs to do is become even more exclusive , but this is unacceptable.

Test cricket is amazing when you get 2 closely matched sided as we seen with the Ashes, but this won't do.

I don’t think it’s that easy. The Windies have been a competitive side at home, but this pitch is about a close to Indian home conditions as it gets and this is what India does to teams at home (well, maybe not the Australian team recently but that is a historically good team). This is an ugly slow turner and it takes Ashwin / Jadeja to get something out of this pitch.

On an entirely different note, the kid looked good. It’s a skill to be able to bat time on an unresponsive pitch. A few rushes of blood but otherwise a ruthless innings.

Bazball on slow turner like this one? They will be back in hut in no time. If you did watch WI batting, you would’ve known.
They'd be mad to prepare turners against England - it's always been their quicks roughing up the English bats that's given the windies joy whenever we tour.

Other than England I'm not sure they've been that competitive at home. With Roach/Holder/Gabriel they've been able to field a threatening attack at times but they're all past their peak now. The less said about the batting, the better.

I don't really understand why they insist on producing such turgid wickets, they don't even have spinners who can take advantage of them.

India seems to own West Indian cricket now, perhaps they can donate some of their best first class crickets as part of the investment.

It was just a generation ago Robin Singh a fine ODI cricketer left the Windies to play for India

It’s just an unfortunate situation but he’s not wrong

The Windies are a very poor test team and have failed to qualify for the T20 & ODI World Cups

Truth is that they’re associate level
yeah easy as it is to look at the windies results when they come to australia or in the recent odi wc qualifier the fact of the matter is at home they’re usually a pretty tough beat and have for a while

bizarre they have rolled out a pitch that would make nagpur or galle blush for india though, especially when the indian seam attack is missing bumrah. as much as i love rahkeem (who’s off the park injured), a pitch where he and jomel warrican are meant to go strength for strength up against ashwin and jadeja is puzzling tstl

Yeah tbh these takes on our test side are a bit poor. So much recency bias. We were not bad in the last cycle. Tired of Aussies judging us on the last tour where we had such an injury crisis that Devon friggin Thomas ended up being our fastest bowler. We had so many injuries it was ridiculous.

This pitch basically dictates that if you try to play aggressively you'll get out to one that stops or bounces eventually, but if you bat time it's hard to take wickets. So naturally our lot attempted bazball and got bundled out whilst India are blocking and nurdling their way to a huge score. Also we are without our main spinner, which does not help one bit.

This is a really poor wicket that doesn't suit our strengths at all and massively suits the opposition, that's the reality.

Having said that, it has been a really 💩 few weeks and our batting is shocking and in need of a complete refresh. The real danger is that if we serve up stuff like this the fans will go completely and that will be that. Even I'm at the end of my tether and will basically just watch Athanaze when we bat.

Yep agreed this pitch is a terrible choice and then Rakheem being injured just amplifies that.

We still can't bat though. That first day batting performance was diabolical and lacking effort or discipline. That is the most disappointing thing so far.

WI have been minnows for a long time. But now, they are truly approaching associate level.

Even Prithvi Shaw got a debut ton vs WI. Ravi Ashwin has 4 tons... Smith averages 150 against them. A number of players have padded their stats playing windies in recent years. So we shouldn't get carried away by individual performances vs WI.

It's shocking that we are halfway through this test already, but no one is pinning this thread. Tells you how irrelevant WI have become to cricket fans (on this forum and probably in general).
