*Official* India in West indies 2023

WI have been minnows for a long time. But now, they are truly approaching associate level.

Even Prithvi Shaw got a debut ton vs WI. Ravi Ashwin has 4 tons... Smith averages 150 against them. A number of batsmen have padded their stats playing windies in recent years. So we shouldn't get carried away by individual performances vs WI.

It's shocking that we are halfway through this test already, but no one is pinning this thread. Tells you how irrelevant WI have become to cricket fans (on this forum and probably in general).
To be honest, it’s a G.S Kohli thread…

Whenever England comes over here, we always kick their a$$es though.

WI only seem to perform at an acceptable level when they play with a great deal of passion and thesedays ONLY England manage to invoke that passion in them. Otherwise they normally seem to have the attitude that they cbf.

I do not think any indian player ever Batted 350* ball on (Jaiswal) Debut

World record hold by Len Hutton 847 ball for his 364 runs innings

🫀wow

I don't think you can judge performance of a team with one match. Wi probably plays their worst against India, I don't know why. But you can't consider them associates in tests. They defeated Zim in Zim, Bangladesh in Bangladesh which even Aus and Ind found difficult. They had a competitive series against Eng. in Eng. in 2017 and 2020. At home they drawn the series against a formidable Pak side and won against Eng. and Bangladesh. They are not minnows in test cricket. They are better than BAN, AFG,ZIM,IRELAND and are on par with SL. And why are you judging them with series in Aus. Even greats team struggles in Aus and they were good with the bat in the first test there. SL, Pak , NZ,ENG all struggles in Aus and wi gives better competition in Eng. than most of the lower rank team like SL and Pak.

And they have a better w/l ratio in this decade then the previous two decades. Their worst was in 2000s. So basically they are improving in tests but very slowly.

This pitch doesn't help the West Indies chances, the pace attack is decent and the pitch has nullified it, a lot has also been said about the batting order and how poor it is.

Probably none of us would have Reifer there, Blackwood's position is under scrutiny and Warrican shouldn't be in the squad, but it is what it is.

Tests are the West Indies best format, and they would need to be o their best day and hope an opposition like India has a brain fade for it to be really competitive.

Tests being their best format is also a stark reality of just how far they have fallen in the past few years in the white-ball formats.

I havent seen this test, and I daresay Im not rushing to turn it on, but the Windies have a real problem with spin dont they. Ashwin just runs through them

I find it more bizarre that they would offer up a pitch that India would happily prepare for themselves. It's not just that, it's almost unwatchable for the neutral even if the scores were closer. How is this ever going to attract more people to come and watch?

Poor teams not having good infrastructure and resources to make the most of their conditions is as old as Test cricket. And the game still lives.

If england. Beaten in Ashes i doubt Ecb keep Mac ( Bazz) their coach in india. Bazball will be backfire in india.

India vs Eng in india 5 test matches now instead 3.

England's record in India is largely diabolical, don't see why trying a different strategy shouldn't be considered. Baz isn't going anywhere.

R.e the pitch Dominica has always been good for spin bowling, it's just that this one is particularly insipid and slow alongside the spin.

In fairness the island was completely devastated by a hurricane not long ago and it's pretty miraculous they can even host a test.
